    Replacing old lock or cylinder

Problem is solved. I took the barrel to the locksmith and he gave me a replacement. I wasn't confident as my barrel had a split cam whereas his had a single paddle-like cam. He had never seen a split cam on this sort of lock. Anyway, took the replacement home and the supplied keys would not turn...

    Replacing old lock or cylinder

Conny I didn't think the locating screw went anywhere near the pins....more so as there are two sets of six (?) pins in the two end-to-end locks. Certainly nothing fell apart when I removed the barrel and took it to the locksmith. But in any case the problem is solved....will post the denouement...

    Replacing old lock or cylinder

Thanks SFK that's it! The two screws are not woodscrews but short screws that attach the plate. Tomorrow I will take that middle screw out and attempt to get the cylinder out.

    Replacing old lock or cylinder

I needed a spare key (already have three) for a Yale lock I fitted to the front door more than 30 years ago. The key is only copyable by Yale who require my signature before doing the job. Two problems here: 1. They charge a fortune (about £40 I think, was £5.75 once) 2. They are not doing keys...

    Extending a shed base

Thanks for that HTH. I do have a two foot long spirit level and I would have no problem spending £30 or whatever on a longer one. But I'm thinking it would be superfluous. The finished platform has to be flat. So if the existing flags have been laid at, say, half a degree off horizontal, the new...

    Extending a shed base

I have a 7' * 5' shed sitting on an 8' * 6' base made from 2' * 2' flagstones (i.e. 12 flags arranged 4 * 3). It looks like these flags have been laid directly on the soil but the platform looks flat and level enough. I would like to upgrade to a 10' * 8' shed. On the face of it the job looks...

    Water tank leak

The plumber has finished the job and I thought I'd post a pic of the end result. Fitting the mumsen rings looks a little trickier now. the new (square) tank goes right to edge of the platform so no possiblity of securing at that point. Also the vertical sections are now sloped from the...

    Water tank leak

:LOL::LOL: Just before the plumber arrived the water had started to drip from a second place. I might have avoided total inundation by a few hours.

    Water tank leak

Got it now, I was wrongly equating the loft floor with the platform.

    Water tank leak

How do the last two clips you mention differ from the 'two clips on each pipe on the loft floor'?

    Water tank leak

I was thinking in terms of building a wooden cage round them but these mumsen rings look like a more practical solution :D

    Water tank leak

The plumber is in the loft as I type, installing a new tank, so this should have a happy ending. I suffered an anxious few days waiting for him as the drip rate was slowly increasing. So thanks again to all posters who advised me to get the professionals in asap. I've highlighted Dilalio's...

    Water tank leak

Thanks both, looks like this is best left to a plumber...that's if I can get hold of one. I already have a bucket collecting the drips. The bucket collects about two inches depth in 24 hours so manageable as long as it gets no worse...which might be another reason not to attempt a repair :D ...

    Water tank leak

Isn't this just what you want to hear. 'There's water dripping from the top of the airing cupboard'. Fortunately the leak was easy to spot. It's from the big plastic water tank, where a pipe enters near the bottom: I've put a bucket under the leak and the rate is one drop every four of five...

How serious is this lintel problem?

Too late tonight to do the straight edge measurements but she tells me the window opens and closes fine, no sticking or jamming.
