    Drilling bath taps

Absolutely - It's all about how it may look, if it's typically in against a tiled wall, once fitted and the tiles are on. Just need to check that the tap bases sits flat on the side of the bath and not so far forward that they catch the downward curve of the edge into the bath, otherwise they...

    Bath brackets

Never use them, just baton the bath along the long back wall and any wall it touches on the short ends, paying attention to the outside corners, leaving enough space for the bath panel.

    Rainhead replacement

A combi, where the mains is good say > 2bar dynamic, will happily supply the larger rain shower heads. I have found it's simply down to pressure. Anything above 1 bar will feed the smaller rain shower heads without an issue, anything above 2 bar will happily supply the larger =>250mm heads as...

Gas Valve issue in old boiler

I'm afraid the site rules dictate that we are not allowed to sanction DIY gas work. Obviously working directly on a gas valve is exactly that and wouldn't be recommended.

    Lockshield valve spindle won't turn

Yeah - when an older compression valves are locked down tight then the threads tend to bind together as they're only softish brass, so sometimes they need a little extra persuasion.

    Lockshield valve spindle won't turn

It's jammed - either the thread on the valve or the jumper with the rubber seal - it may go with a bit more persuasion and then it'll click and unwind, give it a spray with some penetrating fluid first.

    Extendable shower curtain pole

The lock ends up failing after a time of trying to hold the curtain up, time for a new one - or even a proper fixed one?

Gas Valve issue in old boiler

yes - that's great he has identified the component but if the gas valve isn't available then there's no point n knowing what component is dead as any component parts will be long gone, even before the last valve went, so it basically comes back to - it needs a gas valve. Are there any part...

    Rainhead replacement

Not sure where that's coming from? IME combi's can cope with a rain head shower without a problem, as long as the mains pressure and flow is up to it. A typical 28kw combi can output say ~12L/min @ 35deg rise, add in the cold mix then ~18L/Min is more than enough to supply most IMO. The rain...

    Central Heating Design Tips

Yep - fair enough - bad choice of words. I still wouldn't want a client to be able to interact and isolate the EV from the system. Unfortunately in my experience, if some clients are given the ability to interact with things they shouldn't, invariably they will, probably why the 2 tesla...

    Central Heating Design Tips

I must be honest - a commercial 600L vessel - certainly makes sense and only something an experienced engineer would ever interact with - not sure it's the same on an 8L domestic tho TBF. We were always taught there should never be a means of isolation to/from a key safety device that a...

    Rainhead replacement

I can safely say that the rain showers in the picture are not 255mm, the perspective is all wrong. I have a Mira Activate with a ceiling fed rain shower head @ 250mm and it's no where near as big as it looks like in pic 1. To give an idea, 300mm is the size of a normal ruler and a typical...

    Central Heating Design Tips

Nope - All that needs to be done is isolate the rads at a valve (count the turns if it's a lockshield) and the system can be de-pressurised @ the loops or mag filter. Even then some systems will de-pressurise (not drain) without the rads being touched. As long as the system pressure @ the...

    Dripping kitchen tap

All Bristan taps use the same 1/2" valves, either 1/4 trun ceramic or turn down compression, so if you buy Bristan replacements they should fit without issue.

Is this horizontal Tank Installation correct?

+1 re water too hot - get the stats turned down, looks like they could be set to max. I think the trouble here is that the Manu Instruction for the unit seems to be elusive - under the model WWAH250L - there doesn't seem to be much apart from a world heating reference. You should have been...

    Central Heating Design Tips

OK - normally I don't like to criticise someone else's work but if you wish. > I don't believe a slotted ISO valve fitted as an isolation point inline on the EV feed, that has the ability to be easily shut down, is best practice on a critical safety device - any valve designed and supplied for...

Gas Valve issue in old boiler

Given the age of the boiler, a gas valve for that is not going to be cheap as they'll be like hens teeth, unless it's 2nd hand.

Not wishing to rain on anyone's parade but unfortunately there are a couple of things on that setup that aren't strictly correct.

Gas Valve issue in old boiler

Nope - gas valve isn't usually serviceable - so it's normally a replacement.
