Removing a wall between Kitchen and Living Room and RSJ

We did, but that now gone too (another story)! You need the SE to spec the beam. We opted to get the beam put in by builders, but then took the wall out ourselves after.

Removing a wall between Kitchen and Living Room and RSJ

We got our RSJ into our terrace without troubling next door by cutting pockets in the brickwork either side and rotating it into place.

    Screwfix Kitchen

...and prebuilt! We've got a appointment with Wickes tommorrow, but still very tempted by the screwfix option. Will post here if I do buy them!

    Screwfix Kitchen

Yes I saw that thread, but only really one post about Screwfix Kitchens, the other was a more general dislike I think!

    Changes To Loft Space

Having pretty much given up on the full loft conversion idea, I was wondering if making it into a much nicer and easier to access storage area would be technically legit? Access would be via the loft hatch still, but I would add a couple of velux windows for proper lighting, nogins on the...

    structural engineer cost

If it helps, my guy last year was £150 for the first wall/RSJ, and another £75 for each wall calculated whilst there. The new guy coming around to do other plans etc charges £150 +VAT.

    Screwfix Kitchen

Apologies if this is the wrong section! We are on the hunt for a new kitchen, and yesterday discovered Screwfix do them. On the face of it they look very good, prebuilt with colour matched carcases - which would save us near £500 on "end panels" alone. Plus, the actual units are cheaper in...

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

Removing that part is presumably something I can't have a go at myself?

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

Ha! I was expecting some fancy machine to do this :D Hot tap fully on... 1000ml jug filled in 7 seconds... So 8.5l (15 pints) per min by my calculation? Hot tap just enough to fire... 1000ml jug filled in 19 seconds... So 3l (5 pints) per min.

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

Well I'm even more confused now  I've got no way to physically measure flow, but it seems about the same as it has always been.

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

With a bit of luck my last question... Would a hired power flush from HSS (£87 for a day) be likely to solve this issue?

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

Unfortunately not, he was talking about the unit on the pipework coming in. Said it looked like it predated the boiler, and wanted changing every 10yrs or so. I was at work, the wife was at home. He called me up for 10 mins, which was the duration of his stay apparently. The 'official...

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

That was the conclusion I was coming to reading around, but miffed the engineer didn't even mention that as a possibility. Is there a quick fix to this, I'm not sure I can face another cold shower tomorrow morning?! Thanks very much for your help :)

Party Wall Act - help required please.

Is there a particular reason to chose not to allow access?

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

I've done a few more tests, running the hot water taps the boiler fires up for a min or so with the water running hot. After that it goes into a cycle of fire up for about 2 seconds, before cutting out then, firing up a second or so later. Once I turn the tap off, the boiler then fires...

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

I'm a bit of a numpty, so this could be totally wrong. But could the hot water to start be something to do with the heating being on? Is there anyway of inspecting the head exchanger, or is it a case of running the flush and then seeing if the problem fixes itself? Finally, could what they...

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

A bit of an update: The boiler engineer came out today, and says that the water flow downstairs is not enough to make the boiler fire. To me this does not make sense, because nothing has been changed on that part of the system, and it has been working for about 6yrs perfectly fine exactly...

Cold Showers After Some DIY Central Heating Work!

I expect this problem is self inflicted, but I am after some help. We have a GreenStar 24i junior installed by British Gas about 6yrs ago now. The house itself is a 1903 terrace, which has never really got above 'mild'. Anyway, we have some money now to do the house up, so along with...

Loft Conversion With An Open Plan Ground Floor Possible?

Thank for the link(s), I had come across a couple of those threads already as it happens. I was rather hoping with a floor plan somebody might spot something I didn't, because going down the sprinkler route is likely to tip the balance between converting or moving. How would I go about...
