Huge thanks for your response, yes a new kitchen. He was trying to accomodate IKEA kitchen sink and fittings, and added on some macalpine fittings to make it all work. Here are some photos of full set up. Is the grey fitting the trap in that case?

Last Q whilst you helpful lot are still here if that's ok....these are how the wastes from WM and DW are positioned. I would have thought these should be pointing downward to avoid waste drawing back into machines, or does it not matter? Any thoughts? Cheers again.

Ok brilliant thanks everyone, so my picture shows the bottom connection as OFF. Plumber left it that way, so wondered why the dishwasher wasn't working...will turn it horizontal. Cheers

Yes, normally, that's what I understood! But water came out when in the horizontal position....is it because the water flows up to the top connection but the bottom connection comes off to the side (so flows horizontal)? Thanks for your response though!

Plumber fitted water connections for washing machine (top connection) and dishwasher (bottom connection).... dishwasher showing water inlet error, which makes me think the valve (on the bottom) is in the wrong position. Is this because the direction of water flow is actually horizontal on this...
