So what criteria do they adhere to, when they service a boiler, Intergas, Valiant ect. when they are different manufacturers?

So the bottom line is; When customers take a Homecare and breakdown policy including free boiler service, means you don't apparently get a service for free and takes trade away from Gas Engineers who do their job in a professional manner.

Which boiler would you recommend and are they like for like fittings?

Hi Razor, would you recommend Intergas Boilers, i hadn't heard of them before I moved into my house 5yrs ago and my daughter's house had one when she moved in 12mths ago? They must still be popular with some installation companies.

This seems to be the norm. Everyone offers a free boiler service with some kind of Homecare policy and we all know we don't get anything for free.

Hi Mr Chibs, in future I will just get Boiler breakdown cover and get a local gas engineer to do the service. It seems that when these companies throw in a free service, it's a check up.

Perhaps they need to tighten up on the regulations. We are paying for a gas boiler check and not a service. When you take a car in for a service, you know what you get. If this is the case, there is no point in having such a service and wait for your boiler to break down and then get it...

Absolutely, I'm not a gas engineer, but how are they getting away with it and the don't do a gas tightness test.

Hi CountryFan, I've been in touch with British Gas and it is obvious that the seals weren't changed. I've paid £300 to them for their Homecare plan and couldn't fulfil their boiler service, knowing certain seals needed changing. If this is a mandatory requirement, then WHY are they getting away...

Hi Madrab, i had aanother engineer from British Gas yesterday to service my boiler. After 20mins came down stairs and said all done and left without any comments and nothing in writing to say what he'd done and if he had changed the seals. I've always had paperwork before with comments on it...

Hi, I have just British Gas engineers to service my Intergas Boiler. After 15mins looking at the boiler, I was told that the seals should be changed every 4yrs and the parts had been sent to someone else and that they were covering the job. My question is I've never been told that the seals...

I do agree with dilalio, however, I'm not a gas engineer. Otherwise how do we detect gas leaks no matter how. My leak would never have been detected only for having my smart meter replaced. Thank you everyone for your comments.

Exactly correct what you say and when the other engineer came out, he couldn't believe it and didn't understand why it wasn't sorted. Next time I get the boiler serviced shall I ask the engineer to do a tightness test, and explain what's happened previously?

Nothing on the label and nothing on his warning notice, only that it had failed it's tightness test.
