    Wildfire alert

Me too. Looked at it, didn’t understand it, decided it probbly wasn’t important. That’s probably not the reaction they wanted.

Thames Water nearing the cliff edge.

That’s a fair point. But they wouldn’t have to run the business as cheaply as possibly in order to pay Sharehokders a dividend.

Oh so you have a S&S ISA do you?

It’s 22% on any interest you receive on cash held in your S&S ISA. Not on all the cash. I can understand having a small amount of cash sitting in a S&S ISA, but why would anyone have a significant amount? Either get it invested, or move it to a cash ISA for a better rate of interest...

Good news day for health: Cancer, Teeth and Vaccines

Sure because anecdotes are all about pushing nonsense conspiracy theories. From dictionary.cambridge.org - Anecdote “A short, often funny story, especially about something someone has done” So tell us about the time Kylie slipped on a banana skin you dropped.

Good news day for health: Cancer, Teeth and Vaccines

Right, because you had a control group living in your house against which to measure your outcomes,

    Interpretation of a number plate

The spacing between the A and V doesn’t look right, and whilst it seems to be possible to get an “i” in some circumstances ( Elite Registrations are selling YUI 1501) I can’t see that it would read anything other than AV11 - and thus be the current format for a 2011 onwards vehicle. If the two...

    Interpretation of a number plate

Can you put the registration (and the variations) through the MOT check website until you get a match on make / model / colour? It’s not foolproof - but it might get you close.

Thames Water nearing the cliff edge.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but there’s a fair few people who aren’t Directors & Shareholders who also get stuffed in those circumstances. Anyone with a deferred pension could potential see a 10% haircut.

    Why's Starmer still the PM?

A 7th PM in 10 years is definitely going to solve all the problems.

    Petrol Profiteering..

They could if they removed the triple lock and adjusted each pension individually at the point of commencement based on market conditions & individual health. But that’s not going to win many votes.

toilet control cable removal (How do I remove this please?)

As others have said they usually have a release button on them. This is the closest I can find. https://www.toiletspares.co.uk/nis-259-cable-valve.html Failing that you can usually split the 2 halves (it hinges along the top) & wiggle it off. There may be a small screw in the hole

    So about those tariffs...

“A White House official said countries that struck trade deals with the US, including the UK, India and the EU, will now face the global 10% tariff under Section 122 rather than the tariff rate they had previously negotiated.” So any effort in putting together a trade deal is largely pointless.

    Sir Keir does it again!

Who’s decided it’s supposed to be coming down?

    Trump

Maybe. But it’s all gone a bit quiet on Israel - I’m not sure there’s a pathway to peace there. Sure. Now let’s see him sort out the other world dictators. Or is he just sticking with the easy ones that he can steamroller? Yep. I’ll give him that one. 1 & 2 don’t strike me as particularly...

Cavity wall insulation - should it go below the damp proof course?

The latest Part L requires cavity insulation to extend past the DPC in new builds. I’ve just had to do it in my extension (in Wales).

    OIL - Atkinson Tankmaster blocked

If you’re sure the valve is shut, you can take off the bowl on the bottom & check the filter. You might get away with giving it a quick scrub over with an old toothbrush to get you going temporarily.

New patio doors letting water in, installer says it's fine

Ours do the same, but it has to be hammering down - which it quite often is here in Wales in our ‘exposed coastal location’ (as the BCO is keen to keep reminding me)

    Fence Height on sloping Ground

Completely agree Stevie. Just trying to come up with a reason why they might have done it that way - correctly, or incorrectly.

    Fence Height on sloping Ground

Because the bottom of the retaining wall is the ‘natural’ ground level? If your retaining wall was built and backfilled it could be argued it gives you an artificial ground level. Anyone looking to circumvent the height restrictions when building could just pile a load of spoil up and go “I’m...

    Insulating a window reveal

Yep, thats what I meant. A nice bit of 20mm.
