More info...I've spotted a couple more taps in the airing cupboard I didn't notice before; one below the pump, the other marked 'c/w feed c/heating'. I still have a suspicion that one of these various taps is incorrectly open or shut...if someone can confirm the correct setting for each I can...

Hi Gigz, the water level in the feed and expansion tank is five and a quarter inches. For pump speed, see photo above.

Just to add another little bit of information...if I press on the float in the feed and expansion tank water gushes through the valve, so at least one of the taps in the photo immediately above is open.

To complete the picture, I've gone into the loft and had a look round. I can only see two taps, both near the expansion tank, which is visible behind them in the picture:

My central heating system has a cylinder and a small tank in the loft so I think it counts as 'open vented'. I don't go into the loft too often but I have noticed that whenever the heating is on, hot water gushes quite fast into the small tank (which I presume is the expansion tank). See photo...

I agree these problems are trivial in the great scheme of things. For comparison....going back to the late 1980s / early 1990s, I think before Corgi qualifications were tightened up, I had a friend do some plumbing work. I can't remember the details but it included putting a hot water cylinder...

I've just realised the last post I made on DIYNot was last September after the previous boiler service, when the plumber left a nut above the boiler loose and water poured out when the time switch came on. It was the same plumber. Maybe I'm a bit too forgiving.

Thanks Dan, all working now and much quieter :). The plumber was in and out very quickly so he likely had several more services to do before he could clock off.

The boiler man did the annual service this afternoon. At 5:30pm the hot water switched on and the whole system was much noisier than usual. The noise didn't seem to be coming from any one place. Also, the pilot light in the boiler was off and it took several attempts to ignite it. I've noticed...

The plumber came round to service the boiler, which is in the outside WC. A few hours afterwards the timer switched the boiler on and water came deluging into the WC apparently from the boiler. It turned out the water was coming from behind a nut above the boiler, see arrow in photo. I don't...
