Fitting an isolator between meter and consumer unit.

Can anyone see any advantage in requiring an isolator to be encased in metal, when it is fitted alongside a plastic meter and a plastic service head all connected together by wires encased in plastic?

    Light on gas flu

There is no light in the flue. What I have seen in the past is the sun being in exactly the correct position to shine down the length of the flue and illuminate the inside end of it. Like this: Could that have been what she saw?

Fitting an isolator between meter and consumer unit.

When did an isolation switch become a CU?

Pressure Washer - connector to attach hose?

Remove the big black washer that I have circled in red. Then the brass connector should go on.

Fitting an isolator between meter and consumer unit.

The one that BG fitted for me was plastic. It's an isolator, not a consumer unit. The meter is plastic, the wires are insulated with plastic, every other accessory on the system is plastic.

Fitting an isolator between meter and consumer unit.

I'm with British Gas and had smart meters fitted last year. When the meter fitter turned up I asked him if he could fit an isolator while he was changing the meter. No problem, he fetched an isolator from his van and fitted it. No cost to me.

    Phone Cable Question

Does this mean that sad-hacker-kid in his bedroom could produce a modified ONT to read the data intended for other end points nearby?

    Phone Cable Question

At my home I have available about 5 different fibre to the home providers to choose from. Most of them don't appear to use green cabinets like Open Reach, they use a cylindrical object fixed to a post to join their cables, those objects can't be powered as they only have fibre going to them. It...

    Two way lighting not working

As Eric has tried to tell you these wires were in a terminal before you removed the faceplate of that switch. Perhaps the screw wasn't tight but they were in the terminal and they were making a connection.

    Two way lighting not working

As it isn't working, it can't be correct. Can you post the photos you took before you changed anything.

Another example of how cash strapped councils waste money

Several years ago a bypass was built around the town. It's a perfectly reasonable bypass and most of the traffic that is heading elsewhere chose to use the bypass. The council noticed that there was still a fair bit of traffic travelling through the town so they spent significant sums of money...

    Bonding

There are also the gas meter installers who may decline to install a meter if bonding is not present, even though the incoming supply is plastic. There is also the situation where a plastic gas supply pipe feeds a meter in an outside cabinet but copper pipe leaves the meter cabinet clipped to...

    What would you price this?

I've no idea but any time I get a quote which I think is in the "rip off" range I just get more quotes. Maybe the builder doesn't want the job and has priced it so that they don't get it.

    Disabling My Intruder Alarm

Do you really want the OP, with unknown electrical expertise, disconnecting wires inside that CU? Just looking at the breakers on the CU gives an indication of what the the wiring inside it is likely to look like and we have no idea if an isolator is fitted before the CU to allow the work to be...

    Disabling My Intruder Alarm

See my post above. When the bell box receives no power from the alarm system the bell should start to sound using its internal battery. If the internal battery is dead it might do nothing, if the battery is still good it could keep going for an hour or two.

    Disabling My Intruder Alarm

They mean that it is on the lighting circuit but they would still like the house lights to work. Is there a Fused Connection Unit next to the alarm? If so you will need to remove the fuse. The box in your second photo will have a battery inside it which will need to be disconnected. The sounder...

    Stopcock problem.

Photo? How old is this property? If you mean a gate valve, they are not usually used as the main stopcock in a property, they are usually used on the low pressure side (heating and hot water). This is a gate valve:
