    Measuring a new front door

Thanks Crank, you've done a fantastic job of explaining that, I really appreciate you taking the time. This is a great forum! So, onto my next question..... Do most doors that sit in the corner require a frame extender? I measured my current door and the hinges sit 40mm from the wall, I...

    Measuring a new front door

I'm too tired to concentrate now but clearly, I don't understand the concept of the frame extender. Hopefully, it will all become clear tomorrow. Anyone fancy a trip to Southampton :D

    Measuring a new front door

Thanks, I appreciate your advice. Believe it or not, I am a fairly competent DIYer. I've fitted the odd window before and hung loads of internal doors. I will give the supplier a call tomorrow and check. I have measured many times and I even got the wife to measure, that way she can't blame me...

Garden wall - Maintenance and re-finish

Hi Conny, I agree but the plan was to clad the walls (after flattening everything out) with the stone shown in the image attached and the link in the initial post. To be fair, it would cost a bloody fortune, so it very much debatable as to whether it would be worth it. Because of the costs, I...

    Measuring a new front door

To be honest, I've given this no thought at all. Presumably, I can just fit a frame extender once I've got the door in place. Is this basically a piece of trim to finish the door and make good on the door reveal? Any idea on filling my gap? This is my current frame extender.

    Measuring a new front door

Perfect thanks for that. My other concern is the fact that you can bet your bottom dollar, my frame fixings will need to go through where the bricks join and where there is a slight void. Hopefully, I could bring the frame forward a bit or screw through the frame off centre but I don't know if...

    Bathroom inline extractor fan

I'm sure I read that duct tape, ironically shouldn't be used for sealing ductwork and the adhesive fails and causes leaks? What's the consensus on this?

    Bathroom inline extractor fan

So, I'm now considering a single 4-inch fan with dual extraction points with solid piping. I just think it'll be easier to work with. I get the vibe that everyone thinks 6inch is a bit overkill. Question about the solid piping. Presumably, any bends or joins should be welded via solvent cement...

Updating my heating system with smarth thermostats

Okay, sounds like I might be best off getting somebody into sort all of this as I can see me screwing something up otherwise. Wonder if there's anyone local that knows the Heatmiser systems, I'm in Southampton? So just to confim; if I have the wires/power from my room stat (if I need 4 wires...

Does anyone know what this is? Old door bell?

Yeah, it was more so about where I put the cable once disconnected. I have somebody at work I will ask before I pay any money.

Updating my heating system with smarth thermostats

Cheers Andrew, I had a look today in the junction box and it looks pretty scary inside. I've attached an image below showing what I've got. If it's just a case swapping like for like, I might be up to it! The problem is, if I finish and something doesn't work, then I will be in for it!! So, as...

Does anyone know what this is? Old door bell?

50 volts, that's a bit worrying..... I'll give BT a ring. Fortunately, I'm in an 18-month deal now. Thanks for everyone's help here

Does anyone know what this is? Old door bell?

Sounds good advice, will do. So is there any power fed down this cable? I know all about the VM price increases.... Have to do battle with them every 18 months!!

Does anyone know what this is? Old door bell?

Haha, I see what you mean now, when you said pole, I thought that was a techy name for the BT socket :D. There aren't any telephone poles so it must go underground. So bearing in mind that I don't need it currently, is there any reason why I shouldn't cut it? Do any of the cables supply power...
