    Lintel help needed!

If it were my job I'd want to know for sure if I had a problem rather than rely on my client to give me answers

You'd think the manufacturer would put something important it in the manual, but Peugeot don't for SWMBO's 2008. I had to go on line to find what to use to top up and then 2 sites couldn't decide if it was 0/30 or 5/30. They did agree on synthetic though, I went with the 5 but call me old...

    cracking from heat on patio

A bit of rain isn't going to hurt the founds: you need a leaking pipe for that.

Don't forget it's likely to close up again when the soil gets some moisture into it

Seems to me you're doing the SE's work for him?

    Chimney breast supports

I've seen worse and if the 8x2s are sat on a solid wall then it's not going anywhere. I had a similar situation in a flat we bought a few years back except the use of a lot less timber I costed the work to £1200 (generous but justifable). offered to split the cost 50/50 with vendor who had no...

    Which fitting is this-outside tap

That's a washing machine valve so you've got an olive connection against the wall. I'd start over if it was me. You could go with a compression to male thread followed by a female female thread coupling and a tap in the end but it will flap about with a hose hung on the end of it.

    Cracks under Steel Beam

Inner certainly looks like a 203 UC. The crack pattern and the apparent new bit of mortar at the end of the padstone suggest movement already

    Basement carpark

It looks like a very typical RC soffit that hasn't been built to the highest standards. There is evidence of a bit of grout loss on a shutter joint and the rust stains are probably the remains of tieing wire offcuts that weren't blown out before the concrete was poured. Difficult to see how...

    Cracks under Steel Beam

The right hand end looks worse than the left TBH. The crack looks like pure and simple beam deflection. Overall it looks like a very curious layout: how different is your builder's version to what your SE originally designed?

    Repair surface water pipe?

A bit of flashband will keep debris out and let you concrete over the thing if you wish

    Electric Saw

We've had to do a huge amount of garden clearing at our new place and my trusty old Erbauer (corded) recip has done most of the work up to about 150 diameter (at which point the chain saw comes out). Bosch blades £15 for 5 at Toolsation are great and last a long time and you don't mind cutting...

What are their payment terms? If it's 28 days then they haven't ignored a paydate, it simply wasn'[t relevant.

Advice needed: best shelving method for heavy books in an alcove (70s flat, solid brick behind old plaster)

Simple battens will be far and away the strongest and have the advantage that you can shift fixing location if you drill into a bit of soft material.
