I'm looking for an electric saw, but not a chain saw, for garden work.

Which is the best type and a decent mid-range brand?

I presume you mean a reciprocating Saw.

Einhell, Ryobi, or Ferrex.

As above, make sure you get the right green wood blades for it, big aggressive teeth.

Just seen these, never knew they were a thing.
Curved blades are the way to go for speed and efficiency on branches and small logs.

I wonder if the Aldi/middle of Lidl specials are hitting the likes of Ryobi in the pocket?

Back here looking for a power saw.

I did buy one like the one Deluks recommended.
Brilliant for a hand saw, but I'd like something with some power behind it now

I like the idea of the Ryobi kit. In the same vein, I have a load of DeWalt 18V batteries and a charger and some drill drivers and a reciprocating tool.

So, I could buy a DeWalt saw to add to the collection.

Or another brand, of course.

Robin was correct about chainsaws, I am avoiding them, and jj hit the nail on the head; they are a bit scary.

Plus, there's reviews on Screwfix of the DeWalt one that says it leaks oil all the time, which is not encouraging.

There is the B & D Alligator saw, which seems a lot safer, but I haven't met anyone who has got one.

Any recommendations for chopping branches up to 100 milli?

We've had to do a huge amount of garden clearing at our new place and my trusty old Erbauer (corded) recip has done most of the work up to about 150 diameter (at which point the chain saw comes out).

Bosch blades £15 for 5 at Toolsation are great and last a long time and you don't mind cutting roots which don't do a chainsaw any good
