I've been re-decking my 9m X 8 flat roof. The build is as follows:- 150mm Joists 150mm > 10mm firrings 112mm Kingspan insulation boards (ply decked) The net result is I have 150mm+ 150mm+ 112mm = 412mm at one end and 150mm + 10mm + 112mm = 272mm at the other end. No problem...

Cheers for extracting that section of text. If that is indeed the regulations NG are referring to, I see no mention of having to renew pipework if the supply is to be re-established. Surely all that needs to happen is the valve is switch on (if one exists) or the ends are 'unsealed'...

Follow up info. I've had another visit from National Grid and they say the it's not a valve it's a syphon. So really it seems to boil down to the gas regulation which alledgely says National Grid MUST replace pipework that has not been used for over 12 months. Does anyone actually know...

I'd speak to your local building control officer and ask his advice. Normally between flats have a couple of layers of plasterboard or equivalent between party floors. If you cut a hole in the board you compromise the resistance to fire between flats. Fire hoods will bring the ceiling back...
