    New build concrete floor drop

All standard features in new builds. Is the house finished in facing brick with mortar stains all over the brick faces?

    Build over agreement

I had that attitude with a builder, he kept using the 'building inspector will pass it off' - I remember his face when I'd had enough when I said 'the building inspector doesn't live here, he isn't paying for this, I am and I'm not passing it off!'

    Build over agreement

The water board should have made this clear.

    Build over agreement

They should have been called for the second CCTV survey directly after the 'build over' before the next level of bricks were laid, in case of scenarios like this.

    Any fence sprayers worthwhile ?

No, spraying outside is a bad idea, it gets everywhere. Some idiots next door to a friend of mine sprayed their fences. What they didn't know was, as it was airborne, they also sprayed my friends patio doors and garden furniture. That was a very expensive mistake for them.

Concreting over chipping at side of patio

I'd leave the chippings so that the brick work doesn't get soaked by standing water, that's what they're for.

Fixing a toilet to tiled floor

Sorry chaps for coming back to this later. I managed to do it actually. What I did was by leaving the toilet in place, I wrapped lots of masking tape around the shank of the drill to help act as a guide inside the hole in the base of the pan. I just about managed to have the room on the right...

    Re doing sealant

It's just some bits packed right into the inside edge. It's off the tile and bath nicely.

    Re doing sealant

Once the old sealant has been removed, if there's the odd bit here and there which I can't get off, but generally isn't in the way, would this be ok to seal over? So it isn't in the way as such, just some old sealant underneath, may come into contact with the new, but well below the surface. Thanks.

    Crazing / peeling paint repair

Glad you're getting somewhere with it. What I often do is use a nice sharp stanley blade and cut around the peeling area, so that I can scrape it off without encouraging non peeling areas to come off with it.

    Crazing / peeling paint repair

Try as best as you can to get a stable area to paint, remove the flaking area and sand/smooth fill as necessary. Prime the area with Zinsser 123 Bullseye and paint on top of that.

What’s everyone doing for a holiday this year ?

Me? Nothing, can't afford it. Actually I may be able to stretch to a break in Norfolk or something.

Best treatment for external wooden cladding

I had new timber gates fitted 10 years ago. I painted them with Sikkens HLS Plus and Filter 7 and they've needed nothing doing to them in 10 years.

I had a loud boiler, fortunately she left and moved far away.

New windows without trickle vents - future problems?

Trickle vents are useless, look messy and let noise in.

    Help! What splashback?

Painting tiles wouldn't have been a great idea behind a cooker. I really like those glass splash backs which can be tinted with a colour.
