Electric underfloor heating in a bathroom

Apologies for the confusion. The subfloor is a suspended floor which at the moment is just a 7" floor joist and 6 inch wide floorboards, its a new build so I have the opportunity to design the construction. Normally without electric UFH, I would level the floor, then install 6mm cement boards on...

Electric underfloor heating in a bathroom

Is this to keep the bathroom warm or warm up the tiles ? I ask this because I intend to have a normal central heating bathroom radiator.

Heating and hot water options in an outbuilding

Thanks for the reply. The cabling has already been buried in the ground, I believe its a 16mm armoured but cant remember. The unvented you talk about, will this work for shower and wash basin, if the water finishes in the tank, does this mean that the shower will suddenly be cold ? Its a tough...

Heating and hot water options in an outbuilding

I was also thinking, could a 24kw boiler not work, I say this because when I start to think about the individual electric stuff I will need to get vs getting a small cheap 24kw boiler, that will have a good shower, radiators attached to it, basin attached to it. With electric. I will need. 2...

Heating and hot water options in an outbuilding

Thanks for the reply, the outbuilding wall is cavity constructed and fully insulated all the way, the roof loft is also insulated. For the main outbuilding, I think 2 small electric heaters will do for the simplicity as you said. For the shower, we have a 15mm feed of cold water going into the...

Electric underfloor heating in a bathroom

I have a very difficult decision to make. I usually dont like using ply in bathrooms, instead I like to use 6mm or 12mm cement boards. will this work in my case ? In terms of insulation, the bathroom wall is insulated externally, as its timber frame with 100mm celotax, the loft has 270mm...

Electric underfloor heating in a bathroom

Hi all, I have a bathroom which is quite small I'm size, the overall size is 2.4m x 1.7m. It will have a bath 1700mm x 600mm. It will also have a vanity set which is going to be another 300mm depth. The space in the middle will probably be 1.5m x 1.5m or 1.5 x 1.7m tops. This will all be on a...

Heating and hot water options in an outbuilding

Hi all. I am constructing an outbuilding, it has a small toilet and a small shower built in. The dimension is 8m x 3.5m for the entire build, the shower & toilet measures 1m x 3.5m. As its an outbuilding which will serve as an office and a gym, I am unsure as to what heating/hot water option...

What else can I use 50mm and 100mm pir insulation for ?

I think only the roof part applies to me. I was wondering if they can be added to the 270mm wool insulation that needs to be in place for the loft anyway.

What else can I use 50mm and 100mm pir insulation for ?

Hi All. I have a lot of PIR insulation both 100mm and 50mm taken off from my roof. I was wondering what else they could be used for ? Can they be used to insulate stud walls or ceiling joists ? Thanks in advance.

Can a soffit be made bigger

Thanks everyone. I spoke to building control ans the chap was kind enough to do us a sketch. He said either way is good. Use a plate and cut rafter to key onto the pole plate or birddsmouth on the wall plate and probably bolt together.

In second this. He even goes the extra mile to get the colour of wood.

Can a soffit be made bigger

This is fantastic. This is what I would also expect and your sketch makes a lot of sense . I will ensure this is corrected. Look at the picture below, it's one I took of a similar house the builder worked on. Here you can see the rafter sits on the plate as you described.

Can a soffit be made bigger

Thanks for the reply woody. PLease can you expand on the comment. Looking at the timber the joists are sitting on, they seem like timbers on edge, and if that's the case it's bad as there should be a timber flat. If you can show me on the picture I would appreciate it. As in place comments on...

Can a soffit be made bigger

Can a soffit be made bigger

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I guess I panicked. The first picture I took is the current state of the roof. Now that rafters there now, I dont know if it's a placeholder or that's the intended span, but what I did today was to go up there and screw a small timber to illustrate what I...

Can a soffit be made bigger

Thanks for this. The pictures do help a lot. What is confusing me is this. I always thought that the ceiling joists and rafters needed to meet and be cut straight and this is what the fascia is screwed to. Also the way the windows are, looks like it might need to come down by 200mm or so, I...

Can a soffit be made bigger

Its a brand new roof. The bit in orange is a new ridge line and the red lines are the rafters as shown in my first picture.

Can a soffit be made bigger

This is what i want (picture below). I still dont understand how the 4 by 2 will be nailed to every rafter, and will this result in the picture below ? the nature of the building is timber frame and the wall composition will be about 60mm including render (18mm osb, render carrier board...
