Chimney removal | Soot bleeding | Damp as well

If you still have a chimney opening then you need a vent to allow air flow, or you will get condensation which will cause staining. Is that's what's happening here because opening wasn't blocked off?

Replacement backing pad for DeWalt D26410 Sander

It a mystery why you can't buy pad savers for many sanders. I use them all the time on my festool ets150 sander. I've also stuck velcro on with Stixall or other polymer glue on my cheap sanders. If you buy a new pad try a mirka pad saver. You could cut to fit.

'pon my soul, you're in the wrong hole.....cavity insulation)

Holes above stairs are for drainage with all the soil behind. To the left below wall pir light is a cavity that continues all the way down. That's my guess

Has the house had an extension? Looks like a cavity from an outside side wall that's now an internal wall?

Yeah. Lagging well and support and all will be fine IMO. Not my area of expert knowledge though. I found pipes rubbing against concrete or each other or freezing is the biggest problems.

    Adaptor for old bathtub tap.

Swap tap with one that has a shower hose is going to be your best bet. You will be available to control temperature and flow ect. I think you are going to struggle or be disappointed even if you were to attach a hose to that tap

    Fixing plasterboard near corner

Remove that damaged plasterboard and replace. Put a 3mm stop end bead up the front corner, and another against the shelf side panel and skim up the front edge with toupret powder filler. Having 2 stop beads will make it easy to level as they will act as a guide. You just need a scraper blade...
