    Ring floodlight cam

After Googling the product mentioned, I cannot find any power consumption specs but I would guess that draws no more than 50w. You could probably wire it in bell wire and it would be fine,* so yes 1.0 or 1.5mm will be more than sufficient. The supply should be fused accordingly to protect the...

    Fluorescent Light Problem

A 240v ballast on a 240v supply will work absolutely fine with a 58w / T8 tube, it's literally what they're designed to do. If you live in an area with lower than usual voltage (say 230v), the tube may be under-driven and take some effort to strike up. Generally in the UK you should not be...

    Fluorescent Light Problem

Yep as above, 58w T8 or 65w T12 will work fine. You will be buying a 58w T8 tube seeing as T12's are obsolete and are (generally) no brighter despite the higher wattage. Get a colour 830 tube if you want warm white or 840 if you want a fairly neutral cooler white, I advise against 'daylight'...

Vaillant Turbomax, high CH temperature fluctuation

Room Thermostat (Hive) is set up ok and CH demand is active. We've had the boiler serviced since writing this and the engineer changed the pump speed from 2 to 3 which seems to have helped somewhat, I still think the 'run on' (if that's what it is?) Is too long, but it's a lot better than it was!

Vaillant Turbomax, high CH temperature fluctuation

Hi all, My Vaillant Turbomax 828e seems to be doing an odd thing with the way it heats the central heating (CH) circuit as follows: CH demand from thermostat, boiler fires up ok CH circuit heats up as it should until the temperature display on the boiler reaches the setpoint (currently set to...

    Shower KW on a 32AMP

Maybe get the electrician in before tiling etc to change the cable for a bigger one if needs be!

LED PIR Floodlight - what Wattage?

10w will be ample. Go for 3000k warm white if you want a similar light colour. Do not buy LAP floods, they are junk. I recommend LEDVance (Osram).

    Brother DCP-9020CDW

Are you really tied to that software? I recommend Naps2 for scanning (works with any scanner) https://www.naps2.com/

Telephone cabling to a telephone slave socket

Just a word of warning, broadband can be negatively affected by extension sockets, even just the one. Any broadband routers should be plugged into the master socket. Also why not go cordless phones? You do not require any extension sockets then.

    Bathroom light replacement

Life Pro tip: next time ask here where to get replacement lamps for the existing fitting rather than ripping the old fitting down and leaving it in a dangerous condition.

    500w halogen replacement equivalent

If you're looking for reliability, do not go for LAP. You'll be lucky if it lasts a year and also by then it'll be looking tatty. Also its "daylight" colour temperature is very different to halogen, producing a cold harsh light. Look for warm white if you want a similar colour of light. I'd...

Fridge drawing more than quoted input watts

Likely to be erroneous readings I'd say, plug in power meters can be inaccurate.

    Small submersible pond pump

One without a fuse in it. Yes just chop it off and wire a standard UK plug onto it.

    Garage Lighting

Myself and my circa 50 year old fluorescent fittings (some of which have only recently been fitted after being rescued from being skipped) would disagree.

    Query re Outside Light

So to clarify, you leave this light off usually and want it to be simply switched on & off manually? Most PIR floods like yours do not need to be switched off & on twice to put them into manual mode, the common procedure is to switch off for about a second and then back on (only once). To...

    choosing 4 bar ceiling light

This. Only to be fitted if you enjoy a narrow beam of light shining directly into your eyeballs & casting shadows everywhere. A standard pendant light is a much better option in most circumstances.

Portable generator produces 240v but not 110v

I think 110v and 240v are separate taps from the generator usually. Best case scenario- you have a wiring or switching fault. Worst case- one of the windings inside the generator is faulty. I've also seen instances of snapped-off connections at the tapping point within the generator before. If...

Moving electic meter from outside to inide?

Thanks all for the replies. I'll be enquiring with our DNO about moving the supply back indoors, but as suggested I suspect the answer will be 'no' or 'yes, for ££££'. I may or may not be in the process of putting a night latch type lock on the meter cupboard in the mean time ;)

    Shower cable is short

I don't see why you cannot simply extend the cables. As long as the connectors used are rated for the current, are of good quality & are terminated properly, all will be fine. Edit: as pointed out below, the connections should be within the shower unit itself or housed in a suitable junction...
