    Exposed wires - downlight

As you can tell I'm no spark I saw your comment about 10amp, but having read up some now I understand. The lights are 50v (6amp) so as you say, 10 amp should be fine. Thanks again for your help

    Exposed wires - downlight

I got into the loft, looks like it's just an issue with this light, the rest look ok. For some reason only this lights terminal had electrical tape on it, which has melted. Annoying l couldn't find an enclosed chocbox in b&q yesterday (only had 15amp ones left), wanted 30amp to be on safe side...

    Exposed wires - downlight

Thanks for the replies. I see what you mean about other connectors - I found a chocbox in the garage but its only 10A so looks like its a trip to Screwfix! Should downlights be clear of all insulation or is a gap of a few cm ok? This was put in via previous owner (govt scheme) so presumably...

    Exposed wires - downlight

Finally got round to replacing a downlight in the bathroom! I noticed scorch marks on the bulb and on closer inspection it looks like there's exposed wires in the fitting which run in to a sticky blob that I presume is electrical tape. I can't get into the loft just now, but assuming I need to...

Single to Double RAD - Help please!

Thanks all for the help. Putting in a longer radiator would be ideal but unfortunately that's not possible. I will look at cutting the pipes back with end feeds. Thanks, Fozzy

Single to Double RAD - Help please!

I have done a search of the forum but couldn't find an definitive answer hence this post. I have an ancient single radiator (1600 width) that is providing insufficient heat for our hallway. I want to replace it for a double, however the depth of the single from the wall is 45mm and the double...

    Light switch - Wrongly Wired?

Fixed now and both bedroom lights are working. The multimeter confirmed the dimmer had blown. With mains on I found the live wire using the voltage reader on the multimeter. I then tried connecting it to the other two to find the switch wire (light will come on). With mains off I...

    Light switch - Wrongly Wired?

Ok I have a multimeter and understand basics I think (mains off, testing, ohms minimum resistance) I think I need to 1) check my new light switch actually works! 2) find the switch live, label and connect everything up correctly Had a look at the wiki, etc, but not sure the easiest way...

    Light switch - Wrongly Wired?

Hi, hoping someone can help... Last year I changed a light switch for a dimmer in Bedroom 1. I thought I had wired the dimmer in the same way as the previous switch but now im thinking I got it wrong. In bedroom 2 the light went, I changed the bulb and then the switch but it still wouldn't...
