    new plaster cracking in corners

Yes, joint between boards were taped, but I don't think they were in the corner between the wall and ceiling. I will fill the crack with caulk, then. Is it not normal for plaster to crack "in settlement"?

    new plaster cracking in corners

Hi I have noticed that our recently plastered ceilings have started cracking at the join between the wall and the ceiling. It is a long crack running the full length of the ceiling. I have been advised that these cracks are very normal and are to do with the change in climate, the ceilings...

16mbar pressure at boiler as opposed to 18 minimum

If I was to upgrade just part of the pipework ( I can't access most of it as it is boxed in), would I benefit from increased pressure?

16mbar pressure at boiler as opposed to 18 minimum

HE told me that it would decalibrate itself and would have trouble recalibrating.

16mbar pressure at boiler as opposed to 18 minimum

Yes, the heating seems okay and the hot water is hot as hell! The service engineer told me that I could end up de-calibrating my boiler with the low pressure, which worried me a bit. Will enlarging a piece of the pipe on the 22mm run actually make a difference??

16mbar pressure at boiler as opposed to 18 minimum

Hi All I have a Worcester Bosch 35HE plus condensing combi boiler I had a service call today and was told that the gas pressure is too low. The boiler is in the loft and the meter is in the garage. He said that the minimum pressure should be 18mbar and it is in fact 16. He has suggested...

plastering onto sealed chipboard - can I do it?

I think I may well remove the chipboard as suggested. So just to be 100% sure, even if the joints are taped, they will still crack once plastered onto chipboard, but not if on plasterboard?

plastering onto sealed chipboard - can I do it?

perhaps... What is the thinnest plasterboard available? Can you get 4 or 6mm? Will taping the joints not remedy this?

plastering onto sealed chipboard - can I do it?

Hi all We have a stud wall that is made from chipboard, which has been painted. The chipboard has also been PVA'd - and we want to have the wall skimmed. Because the chipboard has been sealed, can we do this? Regards Nick

painting newly plastered and skimmed walls

Hi Does anyone know what the best procedure is with newly plastered walls? I have previously used B&Q plaster sealer, but I have since heard that the best method is to mix 1/2 white emulsion with 1/2 water and you will get better results. Anyone have an opinion on this?

25mm or 32mm MDPE mains pipe

Hi We actually have 2 bathrooms running of the mains, so my thinking is that 32mm would be better. It would not hurt would it, surely it would either be the same if not better?

25mm or 32mm MDPE mains pipe

Hello all, I am upgrading our house mains supply from a 15mm lead pipe to an MDPE pipe. Thames Water charge a fortune to upgrade the pipe but it is no more expensive if you go for a 32mm over a 25mm. I did tell my builders who are running the new 25mm pipe inside the house that I wanted...

Has my spark used the right wiring

okay, so it seems that he has used cable which is more than capable, in fact just as good as it's T&E counterpart, but just more expensive? Thanks to everyone. I do appreciate this.

Has my spark used the right wiring

okay good. Just to be clear, these are not Low Voltage lights, they are mains voltage, if that makes any difference?

Has my spark used the right wiring

the wire to the junction box that the spot lights all feed from is traditional grey pvc cable. The wire loop that then travels to each spot is flex and on its entire route is easily more than 2m. Shall I protest and say I am not happy or am I just being unreasonable? Given that he has...

Has my spark used the right wiring

okay will ask. Does it need to be 1.5mm flex to be up to the job?

Has my spark used the right wiring

Thanks for getting back to me. I don't know if he is approved, I assume he is as the builder has appointed him, but he may well not be. It definitely seems that he ran out of PVC - is there actually a problem with running it in flex? Should I not accept it? What reasons can I give?
