    Filling cracks in porcelain

As Madrab said, Milliput works very well for minor chips. Once set finish off with wet and dry sand paper. Sounds like a lot of hard work for cracks though.

Quick question - bacterial growth in CH header tank?

I had similar issue after redoing my ch 4 years ago. I added AF10 biocide to header tank after cleaning it out and no problems since.

3 years since clearing out CH system. All looking good.

I thought everybody did this kind of thing on a bank holiday?!

3 years since clearing out CH system. All looking good.

Oh I didn't make it clear, these samples came out of the Spirotrap! :p

3 years since clearing out CH system. All looking good.

3 years since I completed CH overhaul. The colour of solution is very clear and less rust came out than after the first extraction (6 months after the cleanse) but about the same amount than a year ago. I can only think the rust particles are coming from the rads, that is, tiny loose flakes...

    System draining / flushing

Draining from the radiator valve should be easy. With rad in question, close both valves fully, if one of them is a TRV it may not close 100% (you'll find out at step 2 or 3). If this is the case you can get TRV caps that screw on to the valve body that fully closes them. Open bleed valve at...

    Yet another Potterton Suprima question!

My Suprima broke down recently (it too has the newer Seimens PCB). At first I thought the PCB had gone but it wasn't. Turned out the gas valve was broken. Have you checked the actuator(s)? I had a bad one causing the system to foul up. Otherwise the only way to find out is to call a GS...

Suprima 30 Boiler lock out - new Seimens PCB

The gas valve is faulty, a replacement one to be fitted soon.

Suprima 30 Boiler lock out - new Seimens PCB

Finally found the manual. Press the reset button for 10 seconds and boiler tries to cycle again but locks out. Flow chart points towards ignition lockout (gas flow, sensors or PCB fault). Already contacted local GS engineer. Thanks for ^ input.

Suprima 30 Boiler lock out - new Seimens PCB

Suprima 30 Boiler, 19 years old - with the new Seimens PCB that has been running for almost 4 years without issue. Regularly serviced and clean system, Y-plan open vented. I'm getting red LED blinks per second: red, red then 2 second gap before red, red etc I've check the actuator and that has...

Replacing gate valves - water still in one pipe...

Hi I'm changing the bathroom taps so I thought it a good opportunity to replace the gate valves in the airing cupboard (they don't fully close.) I have a cold water storage tank in the loft. The mains stop cock it closed, all taps and the shower have been turned on and no more water flows out...

Most efficient way to heat a HWC in Y-Plan open-vented system

This is possibly more of a physics question but I believe there are some would be professors on this forum so the question that's been racking my head is what would be the most efficient way to heat a HWC in Y-Plan open-vented system? 1/ heat the HWC at the same time as the radiators, or 2/...

I'd like an outdoor tap on the front of the house but...

I'd like an outdoor tap on the front of the house but the mains riser comes in to the kitchen at the back of the house. The water meter is at the front of the house next to the driveway. I'm in a mid-terraced house, mains water goes up to loft for a cold storage tank and an open-vented CH...

    Broadband Speed has dramatically increased

This is the UPLOAD speed. Turns out the website I'm checking it on perhaps doesn't seem to be so accurate: http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk. I tested on another speed test and it is under 0.5Mb/s : http://www.broadband.co.uk/broadband-speed-test/ I tend to believe the latter.

    Broadband Speed has dramatically increased

Hi I've just tested my broadband speed and noted the upload speed which was once a dire and slow, well below 0.5Mb/s speed has jumped up to just over 6Mb/s. Download is 10Mb/s which has increased a little. I wondered if upload speeds for broadband people in general has been increased for...
