    Its quite common around here to find a pull switch above a bed, normally in the master bedrooms. Totally see the logic of being able to turn lights on and off from the bed side. Most new jobs tend to have a double switch by tye headboard for side and main lights.

    Newboy, I'm doing the one with the nice door (the other property is council owned). 4 days in with a gun and scraper, and a 80 grit wheel and then finish with a hand sand. The spindles nearer still need a hand sand finish.

    Use the trade weathershield your get a few more years out of it. Guttering isn't too expensive, why not go for the black ogee style to add to the features that exist. No sure why your using putty, thats a bit old scool :) I'd suggest a external caulk, or sealant or a two part filler.
