    Self employed / blagging it?

there's no mention of I&T on the job advert either, so do you think I'll have to get my meter calibrated or will their own guys come out to test? it's never been done since I've had it..

    Self employed / blagging it?

go to their unit and do an induction.. I suspect all my questions will be answered there as well as a lot of theirs asked.. which is why I'm loath to register SE until after the first week to make sure I don't screw myself up for Jobseekers if it falls through.. I don't mind getting a...

    Self employed / blagging it?

I got a start on a new job monday for a company doing "social housing" jobs doing the electrics on the kitchens and bathrooms.. I'm now bricking it because I sort of blagged it in the "interview" on the phone.. I told them I didn't have social housing experience, but did say I'd done...

    screw compressor

this screw compressor, do us a picture.. you can get crank case heaters for scroll compressors, they are lengths of trace heating tape fixed to a large "hose clip" type band you could do something similar with trace heating tape, or have a look around for danfoss crank case heaters and see...

    400w halide lamp tripping mcb

what type are the breakers? and what type of light? 400W low bays or outside street lighting type? ( presumably internal if they have switch banks and not timers / dusk sensors ) they have gear trays in them that mean they draw a fair bit when switched on and striking, so if they are on B...

    PLUG IN TIMER/ELECTRIC FIRE

we need more info on what this fire is, what it's used for and the location of it.. as long as it's not a 3 bar electric fire like in the old days, then as long as it's not obstructed then it shouldn't be a problem leaving it on overnight.. if you're that bothered about her safety, fit a...

    wylex breakers, compatible replacements?

£20 + delivery?? wow.. I can get an enclosure and new MCB for about that from screwfix.. problem would be trying to get 10mm tails in with the busbars to feed it... think you could gut the box and use the dinrail and new type breakers with the right busbar?

2 way switch fault - advice needed!

we need better pictures of where the wires come out of the box, or better descriptions.. these black wires, are they singles or part of a 2 core red / black pair? you need to drop the ceiling light also and post pics of what's going on in or behind there..

    Guess the fault...

that would likely be the steel wire either side of the control cable to act as support.... oh and static.. either from the plastic / wool interaction, or they just got new polyester overalls... :)

Why is the cable going to the shower melting?

(See, told you :) )... You and I know that, but the general populace is quite apt to set the controls to the temp they like and then use the pullcord as an on/off switch.. If they wish to do that, then an isolator in a cupboard and a contactor driven by a small pullcord would be a much...

    wylex breakers, compatible replacements?

Need to find a 40A breaker that's compatible with the wylex NN type 2 ( or indeed a supplier of them if they are still available ) A friend of a friend has had a new shower fitted and it's tripping the breaker, not suprising considering that it's a 9.5KW and is on a 30A breaker.. The...

My sockets are buried in plasterboard adhesive!

yup, without surrounding the boxes, the edges of the plasterboard round the box is prone to break if you overtighten the faceplate screws, or indeed if somone heavy handed pushes a plug in, or knocks the socket etc.. it's a pain that the wires are in there though, a good sparky would have...

Why is the cable going to the shower melting?

the screw was loose, causing the switch to overheat and melt the cabe and probably weld the contacts ( which is my reason for saying that the shower switch should be for maintenance and / or emergency switching off only.. but others don't agree with that and will no doubt say so shortly.. )...

    Started My Diet...

nope, and no psycological problems thanks, besides being overly shy around people I don't know, but that's because I think that everyone who sees me is thinkling the same kind of thoughts about me being fat that Joe obviously does.... everyone I pass on the street I think is thinking to...

    Sealing a bath

If it's just off the lorry and on the front drive / lawn, then wait until the bloke goes for a cuppa and just load it onto the back of your van with a mate.. if it's already in the house then it's a bit more complicated... EDIT: sorry, I just realised I misread the post title... ignore the...
