    Budget

Grid upgrade is long overdue. Good on Labour for starting the process of rebuilding the nation's vital infrastructure. That the Tories and Reform will try and flog it off - for a song - to their chums is eminently regrettable though.

    End of jury trials?

Taken in isolation no, but [the trial] does not exist in isolation, and each and every demand on the system as a whole affects all trials within it, to a greater or lesser degree. Personally, I have no issue with the right to waive a jury trial, if all parties are in agreement with that course.

    What's the monarchy for?

That's my point. The inherited wealth is something they will have, but never have; it will remain a part of the UK. Return it to the nation, and we're one government away from flogging the lot to private equity / oligarchy.

    End of jury trials?

In Canada, an accused can generally choose to opt out of a jury trial in favor of a trial by judge alone, but there are exceptions. For the most serious crimes, such as murder and treason, a jury trial is mandatory unless the prosecution agrees to a trial by judge alone. For other indictable...

    End of jury trials?

On R5L yesterday, a bloke from Canada said defendants are (or was it were, I don't recall) trial without jury as SOP. nowt to do with political motives, just better for defendant and victim. Lady on R5L yesterday said she'd been waiting for over four years, for her SA case to come to court...

    End of jury trials?

AIUI, a lot of the backlog is due to court buildings being in such a poor state of repair, they can't be used.
