Are argon filled windows worth the extra?

@crank39 ... this post is highlighting half the issue with the window/door industry lol.. lots of misinformation and misunderstanding ( yes some of this information is not supplied by installers probably because they don't know either! ) and also the feeling that windows/doors MUST last forever...

Are argon filled windows worth the extra?

Yeah but those windows that have lasted 100 years are single glazed...not double glazed. And they will have needed some repair work at some point , even if it's just a coat of paint. And your Ferrari will be much more expensive and have less of a warranty

Are argon filled windows worth the extra?

Sounds like your windows were missing the ' bridging packers ' ..... Bear in mind as things heat up and cool down they expand and contract and different materials do so at different rates. Annoys me though the logic that 10-15 years is too short a period....how long does your car last ( with...

Are argon filled windows worth the extra?

Indeed it's replaced by air... very slowly ..sealed units are always leaking a very small amount( whether air filled or argon/xenon filled ) but the unit won't start misting until the dessicant in the spacer bar has reached the end of its life. ( on average 10-15 years but anomalies do happen)...

Are argon filled windows worth the extra?

It's all to do with how it's sealed ... the argon just eventually seeps out

Are argon filled windows worth the extra?

If replacing old units ( pre 2002 ) they wouldn't have had Argon as std. So in that case technically it is an upgrade, whether the person quoting includes it for an extra fee or offers it as std is up to them. Argon filled units most certainly do make the sealed unit ' better at its job of...

    Ordered wrong thickness glazing panel

Unless it's an old style upvc window with really thick wedge gasket you ain't getting that in I'm afraid , new sealed unit at correct thickness I'm afraid

    UPVC foil replacement

Most foils ( in fact I think all ) are from Renolit. The biggest piece you will get for yourself is an A4 sample. Renolit do offer trialling courses in how to do it but only in Germany. What you are seeing is actually a lot more common than you would think. A lot of woodgrain profile that...

    Recycling window panes

Why would a local company want to take 19 sealed units...for a drink or two? Have you seen the price of skips lately? I know it sounds harsh and unkind but at the price of skips, and the fact they didn't fit them I can see their point. One or two sealed units maybe but 19... Most recycling...

    Window door measurement information

You can get a wide outer frame , usually depth of door frame ( so 72mm ish ) , or addons/knockons which will vary in sizes depending on manufacture...ours use 15mm, 25mm and 40mm , and these can be used to make the frame wider so it can be buried in the wall

    Window door measurement information

So on that basis, depending on how much ventilation you require ( unless you have PIV , MHEV or airbricks you'll be needing trickle vents too ), personally I'd go full length glass ( which will need to be tougher ed) witha fanlight at the top. The drop of the fanlight could be whatever height...

    Window door measurement information

Depends on the size you are after , there are usually two types of ' outer frame ' , one approx 57mm , one approx 72mm ( as I said exact size depends on profile.) The thinner is usually used on window frames , the wider door frames. Windows will have maximum sizes they can be made at , again...

Need help with aluminium window and door lock systems

Not 100% sure ( not even 75% sure lol ) , hard to tell from the pictures, but my suspicion is it may be an old Everest Windows installation ( depends how old the property is ) . Looks to me like an Everest ' union ' style gearbox for the door . The handle on the window looks similiar to the...
