Fitting Drayton Wiser kit and bypass valve

My parents have an Echo Dot in the living room which they use a fair bit, so I'll show them how to use that to get extra warm in due course. It turns out the current thermostat in the hall is a RF unit, with no wiring to the boiler or mains, so the Wiser hub will have to go in the kitchen next...

Fitting Drayton Wiser kit and bypass valve

Hmm, maybe not completely redundant then. I mean, most people will probably be happy just to use the app to control the temperatures for each room and my elderly parents are comfortable using apps, so the thermostat isn't really necessary, but I guess with the living room/dining room they may...

Fitting Drayton Wiser kit and bypass valve

OK, thanks. It's a shame they don't sell a kit without the thermostat for people who don't need it.

Fitting Drayton Wiser kit and bypass valve

Thanks. That makes sense but I'm back to being confused again now. If I need to fit TRVs on the living room/dining room radiators, doesn't that make the thermostat utterly redundant, as each radiator will effectively have its own thermostat which can turn the boiler on/off? I could use the five...

Fitting Drayton Wiser kit and bypass valve

Oh right, seems obvious now you've said it! Thanks.

Fitting Drayton Wiser kit and bypass valve

I want to fit this Drayton Wiser kit (with three additional TRVs) in my parent's 3-bed semi. Combi boiler is in the kitchen, along with a small radiator, and adjoining the kitchen is the through living room and dining room, with a full-size radiator in each. Upstairs there's full-size radiators...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

    Yeah, none of my bits have got any quality ID stamped on them. I've got the following bits. Set 1: T10, T15, T25, S4, S5, S6, PH1, PH3 Set 2: T10, T15, T20, T25, T30, S5, S7, PH1 Bosch Set: PH0, PH1, PH2, PZ1, PZ2, S4, T10, T20, HEX4, HEX5 Socket Set: 4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm, 5.5mm, 6mm, 7mm...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

Ah OK. I thought the tool itself, like the collar part going into the body, was meant to move back and forth, which it does as you can see in the video, but not the bit (or extension) within the collar as well.

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

Yeah, if I don't pull back the metal collar when I push the extension in, it will just pull right out again. I uploaded a video here showing how loose it is when inserted properly. https://youtube.com/shorts/NHuvOt53DXQ?feature=share EDIT: I see that the impact bits you linked to are all much...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

I can use the bits using the extension with the drill, as shown here: but as I say, the extension isn't secure in the driver and moves up and down, and I can't use the bits without it, as they're too short and don't protrude enough. So I either need a different extension, or longer bits...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

I've got the Einhell drill+driver and the multi tool now. It's a shame we can't get the extra year free warranty (only available for customers in Germany, Austria or Switzerland) but 2 years isn't bad. What bits do I need to get for the driver? I've got a load of old bits, as shown in this...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

Ah, good spot. Both of their descriptions refer to "magnetic tool fixation", so I thought they were both tool-less but looking at the manuals I can see that the cheaper one does use an Allen Key. I'm not really bothered about what it looks like, but I can see that I might find it a bit annoying...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

That makes sense. I'm only going to be using it at my house, maybe at my Dad's too but he lives nearby, so I'll just get the cheaper brushed kit, which also has the 2 x 2Ah batteries, which is better for me than 1 x 4Ah.

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

Which of the Einhell cordless multi tools would you recommend? There's this one for £72 Einhell 4465160 Varrito Power X-Change Cordless Multi Tool - Supplied Without Battery & Charger, 16.7 cm*26.8 cm*7.5 cm : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools or this one for £55 Einhell Cordless Multifunctional Tool...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

Thanks. That's good to know because the brushed tools (or the kits at least) are considerably cheaper.

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

Thanks. I can see how it would make sense to use a bigger battery on stuff like a circular saw and the smaller, lighter ones on the drill, impact driver and multitool, so I'll probably try to get 2 x 2Ah for the latter and then a 4-5Ah for the circular saw. EDIT: Actually, I'm probably going to...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

Thanks. I'll get a cordless Multi Tool then. The only thing that puts me off the set you bought is they don't appear to be brushless. It doesn't mention the model number for the drill but I looked up the TE-CI 18/1 driver on the Einhell site and it doesn't say anything about it being brushless...

Choosing Einhell drill and multi tool

Thanks. I'll leave the circular saw out of the equation when deciding what batteries to get then. I've got this Bosch IXO cordless screwdriver IXO 5 Lithium-ion Cordless Screwdriver | Bosch DIY (bosch-diy.com) which is fine for small stuff but it doesn't have a lot of power. I mainly need a...

    Fixing damp problem

So apparently I misunderstood my Dad before. He denies telling me before that the render was done fairly recently. Apparently they just had a coating like Wallcote painted over the render, although my Mum recalls them doing something (maybe prep) before they put the coating on. She's going to...
