Thanks for the thoughts. A 125litre cylinder will heat up (6 kw) in 70 mins therefore if you used this as a heat store you would theoretically have a 6kw output available for 70 minutes. Of course once it had cooled below 50 degrees extracting further heat to warm a room would be difficult so...

Yes the storage are on economy 7 but the plan is to get this removed and have the 2 consumer units linked so that cabling can be re-used. A timer on the whole consumer unit would also be interesting but I doubt that this is possible.

Water is running out of your overflow therefore water is running IN to your overflow. Can you follow the pipe and see what is connected to it? WC overflow perhaps?

He also has an overflow going. Probably not connected to shower pump kicking in but pipe with water coming out, must have water going in. Can you not find where from? Do you have 2 cold tanks? 1 small one for heating, one larger one for cold supply (including supply to cylinder)?

That should do it but you should first check that it is valve that is faulty (probably is) by testing & reporting as I mentioned
