Either get the boarding replaced or ensure it is good and then have EDPM (rubber) roofing material fitted.

Any thoughts on the purpose of this hatch ?

Wife's parent's house had similar - they had a 'strong box' that was cast into the concrete floor. Veryb secure but keyed lock to secure it.

    Does this quote look reasonable?

Comes down to how much you wish and can do yourself - which extends the build period. e.g. you could do the groundworks yourself and get a man in to do (or help) with pouring the foundations. Then once that is completed you get a bricky in to build the walls after you have measured up either...

    ballast to concrete ratio please?

He most definitely wasn't either. Not one house he laid footings for has fallen down; not one concrete path he laid has failed. And that is from 55 or so of being in the building trade. Would you like me to say about my mixing ratio's above 'for general building purposes'?

    ballast to concrete ratio please?

I was taught that the correct mix is 1 cement, 2 sand, 3 (20mm) stone. If you use ready mixed ballast then for best you need to mix large quantities. If wish a weaker mix (i.e. a little cement then an extra 1/2 measure of both sand and stone but NO weaker) As for the right amount of water I go...

    What Small Van

It wasn't the DPF that killed my last diesel vehicle - it was the ERG valve. (£900 repair at an independent garage, over double that at a main dealers)

What wire strippers do i need for 3 core (1cm+) wire?

Me thinks you need to visit a specialist Electrical dealers such as CEF as listed in @opps response above and ask there. Yes it may cost a little more but I believe you will have a better chance of obtaining exactly what you require. I suspect the DIY shop person you asked mistook your up to...

    BT phone line/service 'upgrade'

In the later exchange equipment (System X/AXE10) the battery back up was 100amp hour batteries configured up 600 amp hour batteries. The principle power was from mains powered AC/DC coverters. The batteries would hold the equipment active for a minimum of 2 hours.

    BT phone line/service 'upgrade'

You will know if the system has changed from 'landline' from exchange to 'landline' from Broadband Cab as you will have to dial all 11 digits of your neighbours number. That is the most obvious part of the change.

    Economy 7 meter

If you do not have a 'smart' meter then the rate selection is controlled by your mechanical timeswitch (your Photo). As Crystal Ball comments I'd not bother your supplier until they come chasing. I've just had to give up our Mechanical Timeswitch as is stopped. But for the last period we were...

Problems with landline / phone - can't hear caller

edit:- my reply below is I assumed that the problem is with 'corded' fixed point telephone and not a 'cordless' portable one. From your comments on what you done to localise the problem my diagnosis of the fault is the housebound persons telephone itself. You say you have changed the 'phone...

How long should a 12v Car Battey last?

Is your car regularly serviced at a main dealer (or an independent specialist)? Ask them for a replacement battery price as the car needs 'coding' to a replacement battery. My other suggestion is have the largest capacity battery fitted that will fit in the battery tray.
