Fireplace install - is this an upsell?

I've never had one for house purchases either. I think ones that came with the house / before building regs it's fine. However, adding a new one/modifying needs one. If you do make insurance claim, and it's due to a non Certified / diy fireplace /burner install, you're not gonna get a...

Fireplace install - is this an upsell?

No, I got a heatas chap to do it. Took a while to find one that would and issue a cert. If you do it yourself, you need building regs sign-off or your house insurance won't cover if there's a unintended fire, death etc. Also you'll have issues selling.

    Plastering 1920s house

So this may cause "differing opinions". Still, always fun. I also have a 20's house and went through the whole heritage house / lime plaster / breathable paint concerns. Note the heritage house, while talks sense, is aimed at maybe slightly older houses. Firstly - do you have solid walls or...

Acoustic plasterboard or not? Stud wall…

And/Or, get a decent washing machine. Got one and you can't tell it's on, apart from the final spin, and that's only for about 10 mins.

Exterior foundation walls of end terrace needs waterproofing/securing at/below ground

Hmmm. I'd still suspect / inspect that pipe a bit further, especially the join of metal to plastic, that I'm guessing is buried in the wall. I had a very similar setup (although going underground into soakaway, that was silted up). With heavy rain, the volume of water / pressure was enough to...

    L N label upside down?

So wife has a LED mirror. About to wire in the cable and there L and N sticker for power in. Looking at the wiring, I think this label is upside down. Reasons 1. The blue N on the LED driver feeds back to the chock block terminal with L. 2. The brown L on the LED driver feeds back, via a...

    Staining tiles to change colour

Can't see any previous threads with a definitive answer. Has anyone stained floor tiles specifically matt porcelain floor tiles? I don't mean paint, but stain for a durable finish. From sandstone to grey or black. Random Internet diy posts say it's easy. Sand it, prime it and apply stain...

    Damp on internal wall

If there's no sign of damp or condensation or damage (dusty paint flaky paint, ropey skirtingboards, damp smell) then why are you spending time on this? There's a million potential reasons why there's a variable conductivity there. If there's no damage or visible sign (beyond probing with a...
