    Is this Japanese Knotweed?

Hi all, We moved into a new-build home in Christmas 2016, spent 2017 sorting the garden out so this is the first time since moving in we have been able to sit back and enjoy the garden space. While tidying up our flower bed, I spotted something which looked unlike the other weeds I pulled out...

Why can't I extend my RGB LED strip? (weak trial connection?)

As Iggifer has said, the contacts on these are only on the top and not the underside of the strip. Pushing them together one on top of the other means no contact will be made. I have used these as discrete under-cupboard kitchen worktop lights in my kitchen (RGBW) and had to solder very thin...

Advice on taking down this prehistoric greenhouse/conservatory...

Missing it already to be honest and it's only been down for two days. Suddenly feeling very exposed at the rear now.

Advice on taking down this prehistoric greenhouse/conservatory...

Well it came down today. I was in work all day so don't have much information as to how things came apart but I'm told it was extremely difficult. Such to the extent that they decided there was no way in hell it could ever be reconstructed (things had seized, rubbers had perished etc) and some...

Advice on taking down this prehistoric greenhouse/conservatory...

Thanks Nozzle. Yes the whole thing is bolted to the brickwork so that looks quite easy. Good tip on the stainless clips, I can't see any anywhere from the inside or outside so they must be concealed somewhere. Amazingly, a relative is actually taking this away to use for it's intended purpose as...

Advice on taking down this prehistoric greenhouse/conservatory...

Morning all. Tomorrow I will finally be taking down this ancient aluminium conservatory (which I believe is actually just a greenhouse). It was there when we moved into this house in 1997 and it was horrendous back then. It's insanely ugly, freezing in the winter months, unbearably hot in...

Changing the fuse in a fused connection unit?

Make sure the fuse is correctly seated in the holder and pop it back into the faceplate. Push it firmly into the faceplate while turning the screw clockwise. It should take the holder in by itself and secure it. Should be as simple as that; the MK units are designed to be extremely easy to use.

What is the correct way to calculate cable size?

[/url] Yes it does, Mikhail. You seem to forget I am not the homeowner, that title rests with my parents. I've passed my thoughts and feelings onto them and the opinions of the competent and the qualified (i.e. You guys in this forum) and it has been duly noted. But sadly I cannot make...

What is the correct way to calculate cable size?

This is merely out of curiosity, as I am keen to learn more about electricals. What is the correct way to calculate cable sizes for mains circuits? Start easy please if you would with a simple scenario such as installing a lighting circuit in a loft, cables clipped to timbers for a 36w tube...

Point well made Mikhail. I'll leave it alone, no problems.

Are there rules on placement of switch for combi boiler?

Butyl was terminated? Yes there did used to be a hot water tank in this airing cupboard. What I want to know is, can I remove the old switch from the inside and replace it with the FCU from the outside? It even has a cord outlet on the faceplate so ideal really.

Are there rules on placement of switch for combi boiler?

Just two, one cable which is the supply and then the cable which goes to the FCU on the other side of the wall. There are some other cables in the photo but they're for the shower and shower switch - unrelated.

Are there rules on placement of switch for combi boiler?

The boiler is located in an airing cupboard just at the top of the stairs. The 'old' switch is also inside this airing cupboard along with the supply cable which I assume comes straight from the CU. However, there is a small wall separating the airing cupboard from the rest of the landing...
