    Shower base onto chipboard floor

I'm about to fit the the floor in the ensuite but before I do I just wanted to check what the best advice is for fitting a stone resin tray? It is a low profile 800*1000 offset quadrant. Option 1 - just lay the chipboard floor and then seal the floor with some tanking stuff. Then use a bed of...

Glow worm hx24 f22 after draining down

Well now I know! I'll be cleaning the header tank out next time. I think I've hopefully sorted it, it is now running. I used some thin garden wire and poked it as far down the f&e pipe as I could. The boiler has now been running for 15 minutes or so with no issues. Radiators all getting warm...

Glow worm hx24 f22 after draining down

If I'm honest, I don't think the pipe layout is the best ever, I'm looking into running a cable from the airing cupboard to the boiler whilst the floor is up. Would a length of 2.5T&E be sufficient. There must be a cable already to follow as it initiates the boiler. Then when the electrician...

Glow worm hx24 f22 after draining down

It doesn't have an i on the end of the model number. I tried with the gas off resetting about 10 times. I can't hear any trapped air. After about a minute each time, I got F1 ignition fault. I also tried running the drain valve on the flow pipe for about half an hour whilst letting it fill the...

Glow worm hx24 f22 after draining down

It isn't that ancient. The boiler it replaced was from 1979, so I presume that is why. The boiler was replaced approx 12 years ago. So is only 12 years old. Obviously there is some connection between the two because the hive unit tells the boiler to turn on. The engineer who installed the give...

Glow worm hx24 f22 after draining down

Like many things in this house it is an oddity. The pump overrun I believe is disabled and there is a pipe stat on one of the pipes in the airing cupboard that keeps it running until the water cold to a certain point.

The pump, stat and controls are in a different location and have a different power supply. If I tell the heating to turn on with the boiler isolated from the mains then it all runs, would this still run through the boiler and do what you were suggesting without the need to turn the gas off etc?

When you say stick the pump on max, I take it that is the grundfos pump in the airing cupboard?

Also, just so that I can get it straight in my head. If I just have the hot water on then where does the water flow to if it is restricted in not flowing fast enough through the boiler? Is there some kind of bypass? If so can this bypass be adjusted to make sure more flows through the boiler?

Glow worm hx24 f22 after draining down

Well it is pretty hard to join into the main flow and return pipes to add the extension radiator without draining it down. As I say the last time was circa 2 years ago. The time before was probably similar. Each time that we've had work done on the house and required a drain down to complete...

Glow worm hx24 f22 after draining down

I've been lay thinking about what it could be. My only thought is that when it drains down it empties the header tank in the loft, this might pull sludge etc down from the header tank. I did note before that there was a build up of sludge stuff in the header tank. Could this make its way to the...

Glow worm hx24 f22 after draining down

I was dreading draining the CH down as the last few times I've done it, it has been an absolute pig to get going again after. I drain it down, then when I refill, I bleed all the rads, bleed the grundfos pump, open the bleed valve next to the pump. When I turn the boiler on, it kicks in but...

    Replacing chipboard flooring

Thanks for the replies, I've put one row of noggins in today between other jobs. Would you put them along every join? It didn't creak at all before and wasn't glued, and there were no noggins, and the screws were just standard screws (shorter than they are supposed to be too). However the...

    Blockage in 4" waste pipe

Clay pipe on the older side and plastic pipe on the newer side. I've tried a camera up the drain and it also won't go round the bend at the end. Once I get the other work out of the way in the house, I think I'll cut out part of the floor and take a look at putting an inspection cover in...

    Replacing chipboard flooring

We've had a lot of work done and I'm just about to replace the chipboard flooring in my bedroom. It is like for like replacement. Replacing 22mm thick chipboard. How essential is glue? We've lived here for the last 14 years (without any issues) and the old chipboard wasn't glued down. I've got...

    Blockage in 4" waste pipe

Yes, it is a poor design. It was put in about 13 years ago now. At the time I asked for the builders to re position the pipe to make it go straight (diagonal) to the manhole. When I came back from work they had laid the insulation and said it was easier to connect it where it was and promised it...

    Blockage in 4" waste pipe

I've tried many times, I think too much of the end of the pipe is rigid which stops it bending round easy enough.

    Blockage in 4" waste pipe

Yeah, that is pretty much what I've got. It drives itself down the pipe ok but then just hits the end rather than going round the bend at the end. The professionals had the same issue with their big jetter (van based diesel powered thing). They managed to get it flowing again but I suspect that...
