XPS insulation between concrete slab and hot tub?

Mmm. I have friends who installed a premium hot tub 10 years ago. They have had to do maintenance and as others point out, there is usually polystyrene insulation inside the outer cladding. But maybe not underneath. If it was an option I may have insulated under the slab. However, you've...

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

Yes, thanks both. I of course agree, frustrating. But at least I’ve been able to fix it. Many thanks A

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

Just to provide an update and hopefully some closure to the thread. So, I decided to remove the pointing on the Soldier course of the double window and the pointing on the 3 or 4 new engineering bricks underneath the lintel bearing on the RHS. So the pointing was only present for the first...

    Does soundproofing work?

I can sympathise with you. We have experienced the same thing although it has got better in recent years and we don't notice it any where near as much now. Yes, our neighbours also have a heavy foot print at times but I couldn't say it is extreme. If we keep all our sounds sources off though...

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

Thanks woody and Charlie George. Edit: No cavity wall insulation well. Actually from about the middle of the double window on, towards the non leaking reveal, there is mineral wool type Batts from the 1980s. But the side of the reveal leaking and all the original elevations have none....and...

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

ha, yes. Thanks. Obviously over the cavity closer would mean some strapping arrangement for fixing (a bit of a faff for fitters) or just foaming in. Would look weird in our house with all the other windows only set an inch or so back...

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

Mmmm. ok. Well in our house it is just these two modified aperture, new windows that are the problem. Window fitters fitted them and I have a warranty but they did not mention the set back. And their mastic was poor anyway particularly at the bottom cill horns and it didn't seal the very top...

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

Thanks for reply noseall. Can I ask what setting the windows where they are does to cause the water ingress? They are set so the inside of the frames are about flush with the inside of the outer leaf, which is where the previous ones were and all other windows in the house are. Do you think...

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

Thanks both for looking. Woody: I agree with you it is likely to be one of those things but which one as a priority to resolve. 1. All the windows in the house are set there based on where the old wooden framed windows were positioned in the 1930s. None of the other windows have this problem...

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

Someone, please put me out of my misery. I've already covered the water marks and stains once, repointed all looses mortar around reveals and cut out and re-applied external mastic down the side of the larger window reveal. It seems to be coming from above, but the lintel and improvised cavity...

    water in cavity

My feeling is that there is normally a periscope airbrick extension unit fitted in the wall, sort of Z shape that would connect directly to the ducting extension to prevent loss of air flow and anything entering the ducting run.

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

I should of made it clear for reviewers that there are only 2 windows involved. But leaky reveals on one side of both. Any takers?

New PVC windows, water leaking into reveals

Hi. I'd really appreciate some advice on where to focus to fix the problem. I think the photo's speak for themselves I have put some text in 2 photos to explain what work was done in altering apertures (before rennovation work, the smaller window aperture was wider and the larger narrower)...

Have you checked to see the direction of flow on the stop tap you mention. Can you get access to it?

    Basin waste and trap replacement

Yes, think you are right. I disassembled and the thread is 1 1/2" and very little thread on the waste so the bottle trap is brought up to seal against the underside of basin.. I've ordered a mcalpine 1 1/2" centre pin bath waste similar to what you linked. Reason being that just to make life...

Thanks for looking. Attached is waste from above. I don’t think there is a centre pin.

    Basin waste and trap replacement

I want to replace the waste and trap on this Sphynx basin. However the bottle trap arrangement wasn't what I was expecting to find. The bottle trap on there has no union nut to screw onto a conventional waste thread. It looks integrated with waste? The brand on the bottle trap says viega...

    guttering overflow

Thin aluminium plate, cut to size, form it with something round similar to gutter itself like downpipe to get it curved. Corners rounded or filed, predrill holes for rivets. Spray black to finish off to stop it standing out....

Neighbour's new loft conversion has left me exposed!

To complete my acknowledgements, the post i was thinking about with the detail of the bonding gutter was actually the first one by Makie. But clearly a number of contributors on here make a lot more sense than what the neighbour builder or roofer has offered up...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation
