Neighbour's new loft conversion has left me exposed!

Well, a knowledgeable and competent roofer or a builder would seem to have a decent chance at inspecting and suggesting what needs to be fixed and how. Maybe it is not even required had the junction been detailed properly. Notch7 seems to have some experience of bonding gutters and what is said...

    Damp dots on plastered wall

You are right to question that area, yes it could let in water, yes, you could re-mortar the local area but I fear the rest of the detail looks poor as well, as bobasd mentions in a slightly more pointy way!

    Nest 3rd Gen & Ideal Logic+ System 30

Well done on the persistence and good luck. BTW, your new support request link to make the changes does not link through, I don't know if that is because they have not accepted it yet or some other issue when you posted it.

Neighbour's new loft conversion has left me exposed!

This looks a bit poor. It needs to be brought up to acceptable spec and no worse than before. I note someone else said that PWA does not apply to roofs. OK but where the works are incedental to party wall notifiable work, it is. This is based how I have seen the PWAs work in practice. In...

    Nest 3rd Gen & Ideal Logic+ System 30

I'm chipping in because I have some experience of a nest gen 3 in y plan set up (non opentherm) and also a lyric T6RW set up with two zones on s plan with opentherm. I am not an installer but I am not too bad with understanding control systems. Anyway, I was surprised to find out that there is...

Dulux Diamond Satinwood waterbased paint - achieving the finish

Can't resolve your problems but maybe make you feel better. I have a fastidious friend building a house. He's attention to building detail and fastidiousness is second to none. He asked if I had used Diamond Satin Wood water based as he was having a hell of a time. I sent him some of my photos...

    Damp dots on plastered wall

There is some good pickups by Bobasd and noseall. Looking at the photos, after reading their comments, I can see exactly what they mean. i.e. i) Appears that the walls maybe single skin block or brick. this would makes them poorly insulated and more susceptible to water penetration. ii) The...

    Rattling Vents

Yes, I've seen some hoods with those. My cheapie hood doesn't, but with yours it should be ok.

    Rattling Vents

When I said "unhinged" I meant unsprung..... If they have springs to overcome they will provide resistance to airflow depending on whether the hinge resistance is to closed or open default. It would affect either shutting to gusts or opening for exhaust air.....

63 flats in block, mains insufficient, is a pump the answer?

Crazy situation. I can empathise with your plight as I once owned a flat that owned the freehold and I was one of the 4 directors. It does really sound like your managing agents are difficult and un co-operative to say the least, lets say your property "developed" a leak and your plumber who...

    Rattling Vents

    1. Yes, I would say it will be better protected from rattling. In our bathroom, when the wind is gusty you can here the backdraft valve swing but the kitchen shutter vent will be going mad clicking open and shut. 2. Yes, after inline fan before exhaust outlet. 3. I used a plastic one, but...

Smart thermostar: 2 x Zones and HW and Opentherm.

Hello and good evening. I’m trying to help out a friend, part way through some house extension work. Their CH system has been altered from a y plan with a unvented cylinder and radiators to an s plan with 3 no. zone valves 1. Rads, 2. CH, 3. HW Cylinder and is operational on the old timer...

    Long HDMI cable help

I generally just use a brush av plate for my cable exits, which you can get in single or double gang fittings. If it is a masonary wall a lot of times you don't even have to fit a back box, you can just fit, either adhesive, or fixings, the plate over the top of the cable exit. edit: Like...

    Gas regulator box in garden

I replied to this in Building and also suggested moving it to Plumbing and CH. However, my post was removed for some reason so the original date of the OP applies and it is buried pages back. Hard to get a reply. So this is a free bump. My rudimentary understanding is that generally the gas...

Light switch for bathroom causes 1 light on another dimmer switch to flicker

Yes, thanks, it could of always been doing it because the ccts were altered and the led down lights all installed about 4 months ago during extension work. And it is not that noticeable unless the down lights down low and it is dark and you notice a flash. When I said flicker a better word...

Light switch for bathroom causes 1 light on another dimmer switch to flicker

Thanks for replying so quickly. Ok let me try and answer these questions. The bathroom switch (and lights) is quite close to the kitchen diner switch. So there maybe a live feed and I have had to tighten some other connections. All the down lights referred to incl 2 and 1 off the 2 gang...

Light switch for bathroom causes 1 light on another dimmer switch to flicker

A little odd this. All lights are on the downstairs cct. There are 2 x leds in the bathroom and a fan. On a 2 gang switch. The other gang controls a single led outside the bathroom. In the kitchen / diner. There is a two gang hamilton dimmer. 1 gang controls 8 x 1eds. 2nd gang 2 pendant...

IR Receivers for Amplifiers, other Audio Components, via 3.5mm plugs

Yes, thanks, it is a bit of a roadblock unless i can find a way round. I wouldn't have thought the MJ acoustics IR codes would vary much. Maybe some have a few more functions or presets but I would be surprised if the code base differs. I guess I will have to take a punt on a Harmony...

    Rad Size Calc? Correct?

I am not a heating engineer or installer. I have a 1930s semi. Internal, one large window area, one external wall area, v. similar sized to yours. I have a 1800mm x 600mm single panel / single convector in the room. It is adequate especially at higher boiler temps. Lower boiler temps and...

IR Receivers for Amplifiers, other Audio Components, via 3.5mm plugs

Ok did some more testing / configuration and have got to two new roadblocks now. 1. On the sub woofer ext IR receiver use. I tried the cheapie IR receiver based on assuming std xantech wiring colour coding for the IR receiver end, to tested pole locations on the subwoofer socket e.g. +5V to...
