New RCD tripping. Some questions to help me identify source

For anyone interested, issue seems to be from a built in wine cooler the previous owners left behind. I had already switched this off at socket previously (purely money saving). It seems that when the cooker was switched in we were getting almost instant RCD trips when using other appliances...

How to go about repairing/covering this ceiling

Hi all Moved into a new house recently and removed a sort of media wall. I've been left with this mess of a ceiling, What's the best way to go about repairing? I'd need to cover this wide hole before even attempting to skim over but I'm not sure the best way to go about that? I've done...

New RCD tripping. Some questions to help me identify source

Hi, cheers for this. So, just so I'm clear, are you refering to the combing that connects to line side of the MCBs (apologies if daft question, im not massively familiar with setup inside CU)

New RCD tripping. Some questions to help me identify source

Hi, thanks. Yeah I'd just made a post on the central heating forum about this and the same thing was mentioned. Strange thing is though that the isolator is in the in position , as us the switch marked "water heater" in the boiler cupboard but I'm only spending about £2-3 a day in electricity...

How would you use electric immersion heater on boiler fed hot water cylinder?

I have this (marked "water heater") under the boiler, does this mean there's basically 2 isolators in series for the immersion heater? (One in boiler cupboard and one in cylinder cupboard)?

How would you use electric immersion heater on boiler fed hot water cylinder?

Hi, so I've only just isolated at CU today. I moved in almost 2 weeks ago, does this mean that the 3kw element has been running constantly since then?? I have an Octopus energy smart meter and it's not looked too bad for consumption but that's very worrying if being run constantly, any idea how...

How would you use electric immersion heater on boiler fed hot water cylinder?

Hi all This is related to another post I have about RCD issues. I've moved into a house that has a roughly 30 year old heating system. This has a hit water cylinder that's fed)heated by the boiler but also has a 3kw immersion heater fitted at bottom end of the cylinder. I can't work out...

New RCD tripping. Some questions to help me identify source

Cheers, I assumed the immersion heater would work along those lines, how do you actually use it though (as in, if I decided that for some reason that I wanted to heat the cylinder off the element, how would I choose to do that? The 30 year old controller I have has a "boost" mode so I assume...

New RCD tripping. Some questions to help me identify source

Hi, yeah there's an isolator that feeds it, I assumed this would only isolate the live as it looks fairly minimal?

New RCD tripping. Some questions to help me identify source

Thanks all for the replies. In terms of the installer, I'll be able to get them back out but imagine it will be back half of next week at earliest. This morning I have checked which circuits are in that half of the board. It's the 2 ring mains, my garage (which has it's own local RCD) and the...

New RCD tripping. Some questions to help me identify source

Hi all I moved into a new house last week, the CU didn't have any RCD protection so I had it replaced today (house is about 30 yrs old). It's been ticking along fine but tonight I used kettle and microwave at same time and it tripped the RCD. I then tried some other appliances (toaster, air...

Confused about washing machine fit in 830mm high recess

Cheers, so I don't need to stand it on batons etc? Yeah, cost seems ridiculous, definitely don't want to have to fit one. Can't work out how the previous owners had a standard freestanding unit in there

Confused about washing machine fit in 830mm high recess

Apologies all, as I know this sounds like a ridiculous question. I've moved into a new house and there's a recess (with double doors) in the kitchen cupboards for a washing machine. Width and depth are ok but the height is only 830mm. I could increase this to around 840mm if I cut away the...

What actually is the white stuff on underside of felt due to lack of ventilation?

Hi all Any advice on this would be much appreciated . Does the photo above seem generally what you would expect from condensation in the loft that has dried out? Basically over the winter there is a lot of moisture at this but and it seems that the whiteness has come over time but I'm curious...

What actually is the white stuff on underside of felt due to lack of ventilation?

Hi all I know the white stuff in photo is from lack of ventilation in loft. I have been trying to tackle this lately, it's only in one certain but (above bathroom). Tonight I tried to wipe it with a dry trowel and it sorted of powdered away. I'm now a bit paranoid as to how unhealthy the stuff...

Converting fully decked garden back to grass/turf

Hi all Putting in a bid on a house on Monday but one major issue with it is the garden is fully decked and looks to be coming to end of life. I have a couple of kids who spend all their time playing football in the garden so I need to do something with it as looks basically unsafe in it's...
