I've been reading and re reading this.. and the Guidance note 8 post a couple of weeks ago I posted, and the touch voltage post I posted as well. I'm still confused.:( Re the above. I have used you figures, but don't you need Ze as well, to get the fault current, to work out the volt drops...

The picture from the book is showing the earth fault loop path. The Zs is 1.29Ω The Ze being 0.69Ω. There is an earth fault on a resistive load (5kW) Which is sending a fault current down the CPC (0.30Ω) and down the means of earthing (0.25Ω) The figures next to the photo are the equations from...

Does a steel staircase need to be earthed?

You need to confirm if it is an extraneous conductive part. (Not part of the electrical installation but can introduce a potential) Is it possible to come into contact with exposed conductive parts (Such things as metal light switches) whilst on the steps?

Airflow Icon 30, flaps do not close

These fans constantly cause problems, due to the over engineered mechanisms. It always jams up eventually. Fluff and dust can be cleaned out, but eventually you will get fed up and replace them. Sometimes the cover is not quite on right, and that can affect the mechanism.

Its a made up report. The results are to perfect. As for the observations Item 1 - Incorrect. Item 2 - OK. That would need to be replaced Item 3 - Most pendants have live parts accessible without a tool so incorrect. Item 3 - Zs test results all look OK, but one is missing.

Just your standard lamps, that you plug into the sockets. These give good light, and you can't see the light source. So easy on the eye, you get a nice level of ambient light, with no expense, apart from the lamp it self. And if you need more directional light, buy a lamp that suits that need...

I want to train to rewiring an old house

I would suggest you try to find an easy going electrician, who would not mind having a free labourer on site. I hope you have quite some holidays to come... The electrician would give you very defined jobs, to the specification you have agreed on, designed by them. He would then come back and...

    Covid-19 Gambles

A good read John. The governments around the world really are in a very difficult situation. Being naturally cautious, I would prefer tight control. But it seems that all we do by lock downs is just postpone the next wave. Made good sense while the vaccine was developed. Completely dropping all...
