    What exactly is Permitted Development?

First off, PD rights don't expire. Second, it is not uncommon for new estates to have certain PD rights removed as a condition of the planning approval. Note that I said 'certain' PD rights. Removal of PD rights under a planning condition would not normally include the whole range of possible...

How can I increase underfloor ventilation?

Can you tell if the dampness has a more concentrated spot? Does it get worse closer to the side/garage wall? Also, what about the garage wall itself (Below floor level) any dampness showing in that wall?

    Weight loss

Low-fat indoctrination over the years is the main cause of the current obesity epidemic. The body will consume nutrients in a fairly strict order and sugars and carbohydrates are top of the list. Only when your body runs short of carbohydrates will it begin to consume its store of fats...

How can I increase underfloor ventilation?

The square hatched area at bottom left of the main house is the old kitchen area, which would have been a concrete floor. You show a vent to the corner of that concrete area, which would connect with the floor void (under the concrete) via pipework. I would investigate where that pipe comes out...

    Directional Tyres

Not true. My lad had directional tyres on his Audi Black Edition. He questioned this when he had a tyre fitted and was told it isn't a problem, but you won't get the full benefit of the tyre design. When he told me that I didn't believe it so we looked it up - and it turns out to be completely...

Ceiling seam - now creating a shadow

No need. These are just cosmetic, caused by slight movement of the joints between ceiling boards. Getting rid of them completely won't be a simple job though, especially with the textured finish. PS. don't go sanding anything without first having the textured material tested?

    Can I remove this arch?

Punch a hole in the ceiling and check what is above and if anything looks like it is being supported by the brickwork?

World on fire / boiling/ burning etc

The extreme recent heat obviously makes wildfires more likely and also makes the fires themselves more ferocious, but it's a bit daft trying to deny that wildfires happen. The director of the European Forest Institute made some interesting points on the radio the other day; He did mention that...

    Abestos during Velux installation

Can't see anything there that looks like asbestos. Just looks like plasterboard.

    Terrible damp…

All sources of water ingress obviously need to be resolved. roof, gutters, RWPs, etc. Apart from that I'd say most of these issues are down to poor ventilation and incorrect plaster, which could be resolved with a lot of re-plastering. Once you start thinking about re-plastering, you should also...

    UFO's / UAP's ?

These cores were probably drilled in the 19th century by robbers looking for passages etc. Petrie found them and assumed they were from the original construction.

    UFO's / UAP's ?

I'm open to the idea of visitors from space but, like bigfoot, I can't help thinking we'd have something a bit more definite by now. If there are (or have been) visitors from space, the more interesting thing is where they have come from and how they travel vast distances in craft that never...

    Insulated plasterboard - thickness advice?

If you are not complying with regulations, one option is to dry fix PIR insulation and overboard with ply or OSB. You'd user a tack adhesive to hold the insulation in place and fix straight through the board into the wall with long screws. No need to plasterboard or plaster - the boards make a...

Exterior vertical hairline crack. Reason to worry?

It looks very much like a thermal crack caused by racking of the corner. I've come across this quite often in surveys of commercial buildings but much less often in houses. The difference being the length of the building. What happens is the front of the building expands, pushing the corner...

Exterior vertical hairline crack. Reason to worry?

Sorry, I assumed it was an extension. I mean how long/wide is the house? Are there any expansion joints? A photo of the main elevation would be useful.
