Starting from nothing, what is your priority list for saws?

I agree with you in principle but most guys don't have the money to buy every type of tool, nor can they justify it for such rare use. There's got to be some kind of balance or you end up either owning a load of tools you never use, or hiring a tradesman for every little job you could do...

Starting from nothing, what is your priority list for saws?

I guess my thought was that I can put a 3x2 on a bench and cut it with a circular saw... so that's doing the job of a chop saw. And I can rip a 8x2 down the middle or cut a MDF sheet with it, doing the job of a table saw. Neither is anywhere near as convenient but it seemed as someone doing...

Starting from nothing, what is your priority list for saws?

Feel free to **** off. What kind of loser is so desperate for self validation they troll strangers on a DIY forum. Isolation must be getting to you.

Starting from nothing, what is your priority list for saws?

A chop saw looks really useful but takes a lot of space; I guess you can do straight (vertical) cuts using a circular saw reasonably well? I currently have a nice cordless jigsaw (as well as chainsaw and reciprocating) and circular is the one I've been considering for flexibility. But then a...

Starting from nothing, what is your priority list for saws?

One question I have is: which saws can - maybe not as well but adequately for rare use - do the job of others?

Starting from nothing, what is your priority list for saws?

I've realised as I start to do more more projects, how little I know about tools and particularly about saws. I never realised how many different power saws tradesmen use (circular, plunge, bench, chop, ...)! I don't want to buy things I will hardly use so if you could only have 1 saw, or 3 or...

How to make a large wooden rectangle frame

Reminds me I need to buy or make some trestles. SO tired of cutting lengths in my garage propped on the lawnmower :)

    Concrete base for summer house

If the ground is firm these avoid a lot of digging which is neat. I think most would be surprised how much load they can bear without sinking.

How to make a large wooden rectangle frame

Yeah it is but that's fine. The mesh adds a fair amount of rigidity... these are going to be used to protect fruit bushes but it's very similar to what you see for mosquito screening - really basic. The one I built already is fine, strength-wise as long as I treat it properly.

How to make a large wooden rectangle frame

And if you don't have a bench this large?

How to make a large wooden rectangle frame

This is probably a really basic thing, but I'm making thin wooden frames approx 2x1m out of 2x1" timber to put netting on. I'm screwing the pieces together rather than using brackets. I got one built nice and square eventually but it's a right pain trying to hold two long bits of wood square...

Cutting large amounts of chicken wire

Thanks all... I shall order some. I see there are a few types, different angles... What's the difference?

Cutting large amounts of chicken wire

I did wonder if I could use any sort of power tool, even a jigsaw with a metal blade? But otherwise tin snips look the right tool, at least I couldn't see metal shears at Screwfix and the spring loaded design should make it far quicker than scissors

Cutting large amounts of chicken wire

I have a big roll of 13mm spaced wire netting I use for various things, and so far my best tool for cutting it are some toughened scissors. Works fine but very slow as you have to do each wire individually. For large lengths is there a better tool that will let me slice it quickly?

    Concrete base for summer house

I would say on a floating setup DPM probably isn't needed but is so cheap you may as well in any case.

External waterproofing for a summer house

Yeah I think our logs have 3 grooves, definitely at least 2. They lock together pretty snugly too. Good point on PVA, I hadn't considered that. I feel the principle holds but no idea what one might use. You're very right on paint & shrinkage, I don't know how much these products are designed...

    Are LEDs a big con?

Indeed. Chinese factories make what you ask them to make. They CAN make cheap crap and lots of people ask them to.
