New Water Supply 25mm or 32mm

Basically thats about it. I have worked on the total distance of pipe involved being 50m and assumed the starting pressure and flow rate from the connection at the main supply pipe is 2.5 bar and delivery is18l/min. If the water company could supply a flow fig and pressure at the boundary...

Help! I think I've ruined my verge!

Get a damp sponge and wipe lightly along it a couple of times if need be to smooth off your trowelling, this can be followed with a light brushing with a soft brush if you want to bring out the sharp sand flints as show finish Here is mine done last year when all the stuff put in originally by...

New Water Supply 25mm or 32mm

Assuming a flow rate of 18l/min down the supply pipe (which is very good) the head loss down a 25mm pipe would be about 1.3m and down a 32mm pipe about 0.4. Since your supply pressure is 25m the difference in the supply pressure presented at your house is minimal i.e. 23.7 or 24.6 so you would...

Washing machine filling with waste water when not in use

Possibly swopping over the washing machine and dishwasher outlets may reduce the issue, based on the premise that when the drainage shoots in from the RHS it has more time to dissipate the energy before it hits the U bend. May be a non starter if the flexi hoses aren't long enough and as Madrab...

What contaminate back down the service pipe and into the supply mains and back to the service reservoir, or just the water flowing into the washing?

Washing machine filling with waste water when not in use

Yes that what happens when contributors start going off at a tangent to the actual solution to a problem raised, but no doubt my picture gave you a clear heads up on what to do. (No need to press thanks just happy to help and don't need any back slaps)

    Cowboy brickies!???

Well I have, and even my half decent attempt to do a patio support wall is better than the above. The brickwork on the building to the left was done by a proper brickie and is to a standard that should be achieved i.e. bed and perpends filled and pointed, and clean brickwork (although not great...

Floor joist replacement on a Victorian House

Strength wise a 125 x 50 would be 2/3 the strength of a 125 x 75 so to compensate for this your spacing's of the joists would need to be reduced by 1/3, if 600 down to 400. If you maintain the same spacing 155 x 50 would be the equivalent strength wise of what you have got at the moment but...

    Inspection Chamber holding water

What about the the chambers further along the system are they showing water retention. If the pipes are serving more than one property then the local water company will have taken on their responsibility. Perhaps they may be able to apply leverage on the builder if they are aware of possible...

    Inspection Chamber holding water

Try filling a large container with water (dustbin etc) then dropping it all in one go into the chamber this may clear the blockage (do it a couple of times). Unfortunately if its down to the builder allowing cement/concrete to enter the pipe it may need jetting or even being excavated and...

    Rafter spans

As its not to be constructed under building regs you can get away with whatever size you want. Building regs don't what everybody's roof collapsing when those 1 in 50 years snow storms come, in your case no ones bothered except you so its all about your take on risk and what you are prepared to...

Catnic box lintel & Padstones on single brick internal wall

    Yes as stated even using standard 150 bearing length, 19.5 x 1000 /150 x100 = 1.3N/mm2

Catnic box lintel & Padstones on single brick internal wall

No, padstones not required on lintels. To put it into perspective, with the maximum load of 39kn load allowed on your lintel the load placed on your supporting walls would be less than 1.3N/mm2, I would imagine your wall blocks will have a crushing strength of at least 3.5N/mm2
