    Installing composite door with sidelights

Thanks Ian. I installed the door yesterday but didn’t fix the sill. Would have been much easier if I had though as it would have stopped it moving when the door frame went in. As it is, the silicon has fixed the sill pretty well solid although I’m tempted to put a couple of concrete screws down...

    Installing composite door with sidelights

Quick question. Is it necessary to screw/fix the sill to the brick below or is silicone enough?

    Render on porch - Aquapanel?

Great video thanks! I think his whole series is amazing. I did watch that one last year before I started building mine and it was a great help. I was wondering if anyone had any top tips for using the Aquapanel. I contacted the manufacturer and they said to screw it to battens as an air gap is...

    Installing composite door with sidelights

They are Powerbar couplers: Here is one of Stu Cromptons brilliant videos. They install each section on the sill and then fix together. I think I’ll do the same due the weight of the thing. Not sure if they put silicone on their Powerbar but I will. In one of the comments on that video...

    Render on porch - Aquapanel?

Hi, I’m interested in the best way to render over the porch I’ve built. I’d like to add a curved feature to the porch canopy. It looks like this: I want it to look like this: I was thinking of using Knauf Exterior Aquapanel on the porch canopy (over the timber) and underside and then...

    Installing composite door with sidelights

Powerbar+ couplers... than stumped me. I had to do a google search which came up DIYNOT thread started by ... you! You’re famous! I think they are Powerbar+ though. I’m not home for a few days but when I get back I’ll take a photo. Thanks for the brackets link. I’m going to fit to a cavity...

    Installing composite door with sidelights

I see! Thanks for taking the time to explain. Nice job! I’m guessing with Kommerling profiles it’s a Solidor like mine. I see your baypole screws on the carpet in the last picture. Can you remember what lengths you used? Also, where did you get those brackets from?

    Installing composite door with sidelights

Great info thanks Ian! A numpty question for you. When you say: I’m not quite sure what you mean. Did you screw the ali coupler into the sidelight (screw heads on ali side). Then screw the door frame into the ali coupler (screw heads on the door frame).

    Installing composite door with sidelights

I have a composite door with full height sidelights each side like this: Any top tips for installation? It comes with an aluminium coupler for each sidelight. I’m thinking sill first then I install the sidelights like any window (remove glass and fix with frame fixings into the med dense...

    GRP valley support

Ok, thanks all! I’ll try not to stand on it! As for the other mistake, the felt support tray was put on top of the fascia ok. But it was put under the fascia vent. The felt is then over the vent. The result is the vent is blocked along it’s length. Whoops! He’s going to fix that.

    GRP valley support

I looked at some of the manufacturers sites and yes, they said that support is required. Just wondered if it was common practice though. I’ll ask the roofer next week when he returns. Can’t wait for that conversation! What part of the slating is scruffy? Just so I know what I’m looking for...

Hi, I have a roofer slating my roof. He’s not put any additional timber support in at the valley. Does he need to? Thanks.

    Chimney, no flaunching.

Ok, thanks about the creosote warning. It’s not something I’d considered before. Googling I see you can get powder you put on the fire that can break down the creosote. Are these any good? About extending the chimney pot, it may have been something to do with stopping smoke returning down the...

    Chimney, no flaunching.

Thanks for the advice all. I’ve got some Evercryl and flashband ready to go. I’ve done a temporary splodge of Black Jack repair mastic over a few dodgy areas of mortar and despite some heavy rain there’s now no leak. An additional question though. At the moment both chimneys “pots” are at the...

Yes, it’s a hairline crack. What’s the best way to fix it?

Great thanks! Any harm is putting some Thompsons water seal on it?
