Yes, another Motorised Valve issue - advice needed

The room stat is used to supply the valve motor to open the valve. So any valve being opened powers the boiler to on by it's relay action.

Yes, another Motorised Valve issue - advice needed

One point you need to be aware of is that those motor valves act as a relay and the switch applies power to make the boiler work. However when manually put in the open position it does not move far enough to operate the switch. That is only done when it is motor driven to the open position.

Odd waste pipe on a toilet.

This was sent to me by a friend. You will see in the video that the soil pipe disappears into a bricked off corner. This is on the first floor of a four story of a block built around 1900. Above the soil pipe there is another pipe coming up and bending back towards the vertical soil stack...

I've provided a lovely new cold feed going exclusively to a new combi. A quick question.

When I say gravity fed I mean supplied by gravity from a header tank. Not pressurised and sealed Danny. Not that the cylinder heating coil is not pumped!

And you can still buy heat only boilers which can be used on an open vented system. The Worcester Ri range for example. Altough on our energy eficiency course we were taught that an open vented system is about 4% to 5% less efficient.

I've provided a lovely new cold feed going exclusively to a new combi. A quick question.

That is not necessarily true. You could fit an unvented cylinder and quite successfully have it heated with your existing gravity fed Ideal Classic! It is only the domestic hot water which is pressurised inside the unvented cylinder!

I've provided a lovely new cold feed going exclusively to a new combi. A quick question.

I think you may be confusing yourself. A boiler needs to be pressurised if the design requires it. And most modern boilers do require it. Most radiator systems will accept a pressurised system and most installers will have pressurised many systems. I hear of few unexpected failures on...

    Boiler installation / Ethics / General Q

I have probably fitted about eight Intergas boilers. None have gone wrong yet! I did have to repair a brand new one with a failed gas valve. It had been bought very cheaply and installed by a non registered installer!

I've provided a lovely new cold feed going exclusively to a new combi. A quick question.

There is no difference of opinion with Terry. He was only saying it was not required. However as you have already done it then I accept that is your current situation. It would be slightly better if you connected the shower cold input to just before the boiler.

I've provided a lovely new cold feed going exclusively to a new combi. A quick question.

Taking a dedicated supply directly to the combi is a very good idea for you. Having such a high supply pressure if there was any noticeable difference in flow rates at the showers when other house taps are opened then I would suggest a PRV just before the boiler inlet just set at about the...

    Modifications and insurance

A long while ago I had my car written off by a driver whose insurance firm refused to indemnify him because he put a wrong age on his proposal form. He had put 26 when in fact he was 29 ! I discovered that my policy had a new for old which covered my one year old car. So I claimed on that...

Decommissioning vented cylinder heated by Danesmoor oil boiler

A much cheaper solution would be to fit a shower pump. Are you very sure that you will be able to continue to get cheap off peak electricity? Any unvented needs a very good dynamic mains flow rate. Many installers struggle to understand the needs. An open pipe flow rate is almost irrelevant...

    Electric Hot Water Cylinder

The lower one would be used if on a cheap rate night time supply. Then the upper one would be used for a daytime boost . Or left on all the time to ensure hot water at any time.

1 cm thick limescale in toilet

Hydrochloric acid is the best way to dissolve lime scale and will do it quite quickly. Best supplied at a 32% solution. Only needs about 10% solution for a toilet bowl and as it produces calcium chloride that is very soluable and does not prevent the acid reaching the limescale. It can bubble...

LPG boiler works, Heat Store doesn't. Also, Smart pumps?

What is wrong with biomass boiler? How many live there? It sounds to me that you are trying to heat more than is needed. Undersized is only with reference to the maximum heat requirement. The actual heat requirement is only about 100 Watts per square metre of occupied house.

    Potterson Boiler - Circulation pump

Any central heating pump with the same connections can be used. Grunfoss are usually thought to be the best. CP53 pumps are now made with the brand name of Myson. If they have three speed settings then usually setting II will work fine.

    Electric Hot Water Cylinder

150 li is not very large but it all depends on how many live there. You need to use the lowest immersion element. Often a switch labelled "boost" is only connected to an element near the top to give a small amount of water for washing up. You also need to measure your shower flow rate. Then...

Mains HE24 flame failure on hot water only

Does the boiler fire up for a while before going to flame failure. If not then it could be an ( unusual ) PCB failure. Or someone has wrongly connected something.
