How to find where cable fault is?

BT had several types. The most common was a fairly short range yellow one which could detect a tone applied at the exchange within a cabinet at a distance of about 100mm. But the nice one was one that could be held up in the air and detect a tone applied to overhead drop wires several meters...

How to find where cable fault is?

Oddly nobody suggested using a CAT. I think they can detect a live cable at a fair distance. I think that I have one somewhere so could have found it and checked it. I think it uses large dry batteries so I have not been very enthusiastic about it. But as they sell for a high price I really...

Underfloor Heating: one zone not heating

Looks like the heads are held on by the screwed clamps underneath. With two broken and replaced with zip ties. Jubilee clips would probably be a suitable solution if you needed to remove those.

Issue with Radiator connected with 8mm Piping to existing 15mm Copper

My simple rule of thumb of 100 W per sq meter would make that rad output about right IF the flow temperature was about 82C or at its design temperature. So are there any undisclosed heat losses? Leaking windows? Vents to the outside?

Issue with Radiator connected with 8mm Piping to existing 15mm Copper

You cannot properly balance rads without any way to measure the flow and return temperatures. But I can because I traim myself to measure temps by touching them.

How to find where cable fault is?

Solved! The owner found someone to come and look at it. They discovered that there was an isolator switch a couple of meters before the shower unit and conveniently hidden behind the head board of the bed. That had been turned off by the tenant. That greatly surprised me bacause the tenant...

How to find where cable fault is?

Sorry, yes the 6mm will presumably be stranded which would be very unlikely to fail by breaking. However over the 10m of concealed cable run there could well be some kind of connector or joint which has failed.

How to find where cable fault is?

I have access to the terminations and they are both fine. Both solid 6mm conductors. But I do not know if there are any joints hidden somewhere.

There could well be but totally out of sight under floors or behind walls.

How to find where cable fault is?

I was wondering how an average electrician would expect to find the problem. There is a break in the live somewhere. And no isolator in or near the shower.

How to find where cable fault is?

A lady that I know has converted two upstairs bedroons into self contained with electric showers and WC and basins for letting. She has a partial basement with three CUs and the 6mm T&E shower cables disappear into the underfloor in the basement. There is no indication of where the cables for...

Tory party to change back to imperial measurements

There is no need to alter the UK sizes of drinking. A pint is 568 cc and well established as a convenient unit for drinking beer. A bottle of wine is 750cc and a reasonable volume to be shared between two over dinner. And a suitable volume for an alcoholic, who does not drive, to drink on...

How to reduce temperature on santon premier plus hot water cylinder

Well you could measure your tap temperature digitally for reference. The adjustment at top right is for the stat to bring on the boiler. You might turn that a little anticlockwise. The qualification is primarily to see if the cylinder is correctly fitted with the appropriate safety devices...

You need to tell us how you are heating your hot water. Boiler, electricity or both? Furthermore anyone working on unvented cylinders should have the appropriate certificate.

    Potterton Suprima - Short Cycling?

My initial reaction is that it is probably correct for your installation. You seem to have decided there is some problem! So what would you expect? However if I was investigating it then I would be measuring the power input whilst firing first. And then plotting the return temperatures...

    Overheating Baxi Solo 2 R2

I seem to remember that this boiler has a built in pump over run to cool it down after it has fired. However for this to work properly the permanent live needs to be connected . Many installers do not correctly wire up the boiler thus preventing the pump over run from working.
