    Overtime anyone?

I'm not confusing anything, I worked for Reuters at the DTC for 5 years before moving to their HQ in Fleet St. I know exactly what we had there. UPSs on each of the four machine floors, containerised generators on the roof and diversely routed mains supplies for separated substations. Each 19"...

    Overtime anyone?

That's what we had (probably still do) at Reuters. Huge banks of lead-acid batteries in each machine room with inverters to bridge the gap whilst the gennies came online.

    Overtime anyone?

Generators in large installations are really only useful/intended to allow for a clean shutdown, or to bridge the gap whilst the affected systems are switched over to the alternative grid feed, Oh. wait a minute, there isn't one !

Seems like a case of P^7 to me!

    Overtime anyone?

I'm surprised that LHR is not fed from two geographically separated substations with diverse cable routing around the airport, and with the ability to support the entire load from 9ne or other if one fails, as is often done for large data centres.

C&G 8202 past exam paper question. Cable calc.

IMO that's a bit backwards. It's the CCC of the cable that is reduced by a higher Ta, not the current rating of the OPD. Their reasoning is that you have to apply the correction for 3036 fuses that way so you might as well do them all that way. Who uses 3036 fuses these days? As you suggest, I...

C&G 8202 past exam paper question. Cable calc.

You're applying the ambient temperature correction factor to the wrong thing - you apply it to the CCC of the CABLE not the OPD. You just need to check that the corrected CCC of the cable is still >= the OPD rating. The CCC of the cable is 36A method C @30C. You apply the ambient Ca correction...

can you use 3 phase SWA cable for 230vAC single phase?

Without corroborating information, the answer to any question about anything given by anybody, especially on a forum, could be correct or incorrect, regardless of qualifications or otherwise.

Internet speed - WiFi v wired.

I mean people who want 900Mb/s + speeds, not 150M, I have that and it speeds up software updates and video uploads to YouTube very nicely. I started out with Demon Internet and a 300bps acoustic coupler.

Internet speed - WiFi v wired.

Indeed. I can't understand this obsession with bandwidth unless you have a houseful of UHD video streamers and gamers! The ISPs must love it.

Why do you need to drain the main cylinder if the valves are on the primary?

    Testing a Boiler Thermistor

It's not like thermostat. A thermistor changes resistance with temperature, it doesn't have contacts. If you can find the nominal resistance from documentation, you can check it with a suitable meter.

    RJ11 pinout

If you disconnect the incoming analogue line from your existing master socket and connect the line from the router to 2 & 5 on an extension near the router it should work. Mine works fine that way. Or move the master socket to where the router is, BT won't know or care.

    RJ11 pinout

Yes. Modern phones don't need a bell wire and bell wire can cause issues or speed reductions with adsl. Best disconnected at every socket.

    Strange Socket In Hospital

Very unlikely each outlet on a twin pate would be on different circuits. I've seen plugs/sockets with "T" shaped earth pins used in hospitals for connecting medical equipment t deidcated/clean earth supply. You can still get them ...

    Fluoresent or LED

My street was done about 8 months ago and the improvement in light coverage and quality over the old yellow sodium lamps is immense. In addition there is much less stray light both upwards and sideways. They did a one for one replacement of the existing lights, each one took about thirty...

Mystery Wire Switched Fuse Spur to Blank

If there is only a single cable connected to the FCU then just remove that too. Then you can remove the unused back box, fill and decorate over.
