What to buy... what to buy?

Thanks John, yes, an Octavia could well fit the bill.... Not so keen on a people carrier to be fair, at least, not just yet :)

    Any good gaming pc

Don't buy HP. Ever. Honestly, go for literally ANYTHING else in preference to HP, if you want the machine to last more than 14 months without terminal hardware failure rendering it beyond repair. Their consumer computer equipment is complete and utter garbage.

What to buy... what to buy?

Hi, Looking to change my car at some stage and like a diesel (I know, I know haha...) reasonable-sized estate, something a step up in size from a Focus, which is a bit cramped. Considering an A6, or maybe Volvo V70. Budget of about 10K, would like something as new-ish as possible, and...

    Automatic Light Switch for garage

I suspect a PIR will probably do what you want in this type of situation. Keep the wall switch as well, so you can over-ride it (set the lights permanently on) as and when you need to. For the lights themselves, consider swapping the single fitting to one (or maybe two?) fluorescent strip...

    laptop choice

I can only speak from personal experience; within my family we've (my parents and I) each had an HP laptop, and all three (all different HP models, made in different years) have failed at between 18 months to around 3 years old due to inadequate cooling causing the main board to be written off.

Sony DVD Recorder RDR-HXD870 Software problem

Yep, had the same with the same machine since the 19th, and found this this morning (shamelessly copied from DigitalSpy page ).... http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1857171&page=2 This worked well on my machine and seems to have solved the problem. if you are stuck in...

    Media server power settings

Just an idea, but if the desktop can be set to "wake on LAN", you could create a batch file on the laptop to ping it. Drag this batch file into the laptop's "startup" section of the start menu, and it should run at boot. No idea if this will actually work, but it sounds as though it might be...

    Strange occurrence

RFI? Radio frequency interference. The way that operating a light switch will make an AM radio crackle, or a mobile phone will interfere with TV sound. Nothing to worry about from a safety point of view. :)

Really need some help please. Focus, 1.6TDCi

Lol, that made me smile, thanks! Reminds me of a long and probably mis-spent period cleaning various 'projects' in my parents (lovely and clean, for some reason) kitchen sink... but always while they were out(!)

Really need some help please. Focus, 1.6TDCi

Thanks John, I actually had the front of the car jacked 'up' (slightly), and it still came out... If it had been level, I probably would have lost a bit more than I did, but by the same token it sounds like I probably did have too much in there to start with. Sounds like nothing to...

Really need some help please. Focus, 1.6TDCi

Thanks a lot everyone. Am I OK to leave the transmission with less fluid than it had originally? The plug I (stupidly) removed only released a tiny dribble of fluid very slowly, and lost a total of around a coffee cup full - just don't want to leave the car short of vital fluids if it's...

Really need some help please. Focus, 1.6TDCi

Hi, Trying to do an oil change on this car, and I've undone what I thought was the sump drain plug (front of the engine, shown below) This I expected to release a flood of old oil, but it didn't. I ended up with the following dribbling very slowly into the drain bucket...

    SolidWoodKitchens

The same company also spams forums. I'm a member of a kayaking one, and they turn up regularly there trying to sell their tat via spam postings, despite being repeatedly banned. Not surprised the quality is this poor, given their approach to marketing.... One to avoid! Feel really sorry...

    1930s house fuse box

Hi, Having seen the picture below, do others agree that those exposed terminals above that metal fuseboard at the bottom of your picture (which does look to be 1930's in age) look as though they could be live, and totally exposed to being touched? The best thing would be not to go near...

    New front door question

Hello, This is my first post to this board, I'm more at home with electrics and AV kit, but needs must... The front door of my flat (internal, flat to corridor) is looking a bit the worse for wear, and I'm aiming to get it replaced with something a bit more secure and in better condition...

    Lost digital access...-HELP needed please

Best advice (always) is to get an original remote, and use that. Ebay might be a cheaper source than the manufacturer.
