You can’t burn all pallets, check the wood for stamps. EUR/EU or MB will release chemicals. Don’t burn painted pallets

    Water butt diverter help

The blue pipe is bendy and the correct diameter (most likely) It allows you to relocate the water butt to a different area and link up to your down pipe. It’s more rugged than hose pipe and can be buried. You can play around with excess pipe to position the water butt height equal to the...

    Water butt diverter help

You can also run the diverter into blue mdpe pipe and off to a butt. Then fit an overflow to the butt so that any excess water will drain off while the diverter is still able to deliver.

    Inset tile to wooden worktop

You could just rout it out and fit new timber.. ? Or as above but somehow increase the depth towards the sink then add 1/2 round stainless bars to make a drainer. You could make a sloped sledge to guide the router so the grooved part is deeper towards the sink

    Inset tile to wooden worktop

What about tempered glass rather than tile? Expansion rates might still be an issue but it can be cut/drilled then tempered and be painted on the reverse before installation.

How to support quartz breakfast bar?

Couldn’t you use two steel square tubes between the two units? Level with the top and about 100 mm from each front/back edge. Powder coated white or sprayed

Fibre optic telephones, and power cuts?

Most cabinets don’t have power backups. Many workplaces have discovered that an IT failure knocks out telephones. When POT (plain old telephones) worked, you could email or phone if one part of the structure went down. Now, both are reliant on both the local hub/modem and all the powered units...

Potential trip hazard how would you deal with this

Steps are expected to be equal. Ply under vinyl is only a few mm. I’d use some kind of transition strip or if you’re keeping the step and floor as bare wood you might be able to cut the existing threshold out and shim it up. It’s not easy to see what’s going on threshold wise

Laminate flooring in bathroom, is this normal?

Not a pro but Unless you paid to have the skirting removed, then replaced, there must be a gap for expansion. Hence the trim added. The bit around the toilet base looks a bit naff, but can it be seen normally in use? Why choose laminate for a bathroom? It’s the worst flooring choice

    Angle Grinder Question

Assuming that the tools both take the same rake / blade I’d start with the battery one. I’d hope that one battery would do 1 1/2 metres at least. It will probably be less powerful, but you don’t need a lot. It will be easier to handle. Be prepared for dust

Is it easy to fit a spandrel to stairs?

You can do it yourself if you have a circular saw (or even hand saw) Maybe template it out with cardboard or hardboard if you aren’t confident. A sheet of 18mm exterior ply is £30-40 You can cover the joins with mouldings You could use toung and groove panelling if it suited the house.

    Hanging 20kg light fitting

Simply drilling through the plaster to secure into the joists shouldn’t cause a ceiling to crack. It’s likely plasterboard but you could open the screw hole up a tiny bit to ensure that no pressure goes onto the plaster? 20kg is heavy so I’d hope that you can get fittings into more than one...

Please can anyone help, aib or old plasterboard? (1)

Best get it tested? It’s pretty cheap. I think that it’s likely plasterboard. I also don’t really see why someone would use asbestos sheet next to an immersion heater. However people do strange things and they might have thought that the electrics were a fire risk, or because it was to hand.

    Chair Quilted Stud Fix

You’d normally gain access to the back of the chair. Use twine and a huge needle. My mum used to upholster stuff years ago. You can also try an upholsterers needle which is massive and curved. The button should have a hoop on the back...

Toaster fire: user or appliance at fault?

I don’t have a toaster, never have. But don’t they have a tray on the bottom that collects crumbs? Then is pulled out to empty/clean? I’m sure that someone I knew had something like that? Tilting a full tray might distribute enough crumbs to catch fire and operating on it’s side might prevent...
