Thats a good tip regarding WD40. However, the best product I have ever used for getting rid of sticky residue such as this is 'Goo-Gone'. I bought a bottle from eBay years ago (I only use a tiny bit each time) and its been great at removing stickers etc.

Thanks Michele. As mentioned above I have already checked the expansion vessel and although it was empty, I recharged it and it seems to be holding the charge since, but the problem persists, so I guess PRV is the next thing.
