Surface mounted LED batten wired from conduit?

Thanks. Confusingly the flush fit like I link are what I know as "batten" and see online. I don't suppose you have an example of what you describe as a link? In your suggestion about a square box, we could then run the cable underneath... There should be space for that?

Surface mounted LED batten wired from conduit?

We want to get lights of this sort of style but all cabling will be surface mounted and I can't tell if this sort of light has any facility to run a cable underneath it, or will only work if the cable comes through the ceiling...

Dealing with and preventing blue mould on finishing timber

Roof boards. I think we've had condensation inside since the insulation isn't yet on, similar to how you do in new double glazing. No concerns about the the wood itself, just the cosmetics.

Dealing with and preventing blue mould on finishing timber

Well they weren't stained until they got damp, but anyway we have it installed now so a new supplier isn't an option. What are the best method of masking it? If we'd applied preservative immediately would it have stopped it - is doing so now likely to stop it getting worse?

Dealing with and preventing blue mould on finishing timber

I've noticed the start of mould staining on some exposed timber, possibly due to condensation. I plan to treat the wood with Sika preservative which I hope will stop it reoccurring but since this is visible timber is like to reduce the staining if possible. We will probably be treating the...

    Circular saw types?

Any idea what they're called? I'm sure my builder has something like that but he's disappeared for the holidays. Almost like a regular saw but with the bottom plate on a hinge.

    Circular saw types?

Cheers I'll look them up. I don't really want loads of tools... Can one of these double as a regular circular saw?

    Circular saw types?

Some circular saws have a feature you can put the saw flat on a sheet of wood, then spin it up and lower the blade into the wood. Others seem to have a fixed blade so you have to start cutting from an edge. What is this feature called and is it still a circular saw, or a whole other tool? I'm...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

You reckon custom-building one to the fixed angle needed might work better? Those products look nice but perhaps a little flimsy for a large job - that's why I wondered if you can get a pro drill with one built in or a more substantial version. I can't see making one is too difficult and worth...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

Sorry about that I forgot that image included the ceiling, apologies for confusion. Actually the photo is a little different to ours, that has purlins angled to the roof whereas ours are vertical with the top angled to fit the roof. Only just noticed that :)

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

Screwing from the inside they now have to be the full length of the purlin depth + the whole roof. We're talking about 14" screws or something daft ;) Well unless you pre-drill and recess but this sounds a horrible job!

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

Seems you two are on the same page. You're saying since the sub-deck is fairly robust, we don't need to worry about attaching to the joists/purlins. Work out screws long enough to not quite go all the way through the sub-deck, so they are ~15mm into it for instance? I suppose this is the same...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

So you can't do it. Full of hot air. No surprise there. I'd rather hire someone who tells me they are concerned about something than bodges on and makes a mess. Or someone who spends all their time posting put-downs on an internet forum. Which is it, do you charge your customers for posting...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

Thanks @Lower but because it's a warm roof, the sub-deck IS the ceiling - nice planed boards. Now your point still stands because a few holes will barely be visible at height but it sounds a time-consuming chore Would a roofer use any guide or are they just used to doing this particular task -...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

15 degree board on a vertical 6x2, you have to drill through freehand and come out neatly in the middle without looking round the side as you do it. Put up or shut up. Easy to talk big in your cosy sofa with a mug of tea...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

Thinking more it's even worse as the roof isn't flat. You've got to ensure you are drilling exactly vertical against a sloped surface as the purlin is mounted vertical. I challenge anyone to guarantee to drill accurately without even a visual reference that sort of distance. @Tigercubrider are...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

I give you a 160mm thick block of wood and I've marked on both sides where the screw should go and you're telling me on the side of a roof, with your electric screwdriver, you can guarantee to screw absolutely true in both direction so it hits the target, when you cannot see the thing you're...

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

Just thinking a bit more, what about the VCL though? If the insulation is bonded to that and the outer deck to the PIR, the whole roof is attached to a piece of plastic sheeting which doesn't sound right

How to align screws to hit purlins through insulation

All layers? What sort of glue can provide long term bonding wood to foil? Interested to hear thoughts on this from anyone else. @datarebal are you in the trade and have experience doing this approach?
