Your waste might be frozen further along and the water is backing up to the basin. Try a few kettles of boiling water. Ted

Better idea would be to chase some trunking into the wall and stick the pipe in there. Then there is room for expansion and contraction and if worst comes to worst you can pull the pipe out from the loft at a later date. Easy to render over too. Ted

how big is the tank in the loft? You may have a combined hw cylinder which means all the cold taps will be mains fed.
