    Other peoples work

60204 is for safety of Machinery. You can't pick and choose bits and pieces as you like. I'm not a hands on installer. One of my roles in the past has been the design and contracting out of industrial electrical installations. I would design to avoid such a shambles. Very familiar with...

    Other peoples work

Better in that another person can understand and maintain the whole thing. Not sure of the point of the banjos in a steel box. Just connect all the cpc's to earth terms mounted on the din rail, like gazillions of other industrial installs.

    Other peoples work

Not sure what 60204 has got to do with an installation in a retailer.

A properly sized junction box, din rail, terminals and link bar. Might have cost a bit more in materials but surely quicker to install and a far better and maintainable result. Why any customer would accept that is beyond me. Their invoice would remain untouched by me until such time as it was...

Burying a mains cable in the garden

Standard SWA, very commonly used for control signals in heavy industry.

    Extend ring main

Its ok, but I would join the cables with connector strip in the back of the lounge socket box, rather than a new box. If there's room of course. How are you getting past the door, are you aware of permitted zones for cables?

Fuses or MCB? 32A is not a usual fuse size for domestic fuse boards.

Burying a mains cable in the garden

Are you sure its SWA? The smallest SWA available is 12mm diameter on my chart, for 2 core 1.5mm. 1.5mm buried direct is 25A current carrying capacity, according to the book.

Burying a mains cable in the garden

Er, where has the OP said the joint is to be buried? The cable is currently sticking out of the ground.

Burying a mains cable in the garden

As per the poster above, use Wiska boxes with the optional earthing kit, and the correct size of CW type SWA gland and you will have a robust solution. Remember that the armour should be connected to earth at least at one end. Use the correct type of gland for whatever new cable is being run in...

    General Rewire

The only reason you wouldn't pay VAT on services is if the trader is non VAT registered, because turnover is below the threshold. Nothing to do with paying cash. The reason for paying cash might be for the trader to avoid tax, and if that's the case, they won't be certifying the job and you...

Is it disconnected at the other end also?

SWA 2 core or 3 core

To answer your first part, I would always use have an SWA core for the earth connection, rather than just relying on the armouring. The difference in cost is minimal. The armour will also need earthing at least at one end, preferably the house, preferably both ends.

Diversity law i think its called? how do you work out or estimate power required?

"KA" means nothing to me either.... Certainly the difference between kW and KVAh is very relevant. One is power, the other is energy.

Twin & earth routing though a wall.

I doubt whether its 45 or 30 degrees the swa will be meet its bending radius requirements without carving a channel out.

Twin & earth routing though a wall.

In your earlier post you said... Problem is that it's a double skin brick/breeze block wall. I've got a 14mm 46mm long bit which is just about long enough to go though the wall straight on. Will probably need a 1m long bit too go though the wall at an angle. Is the wall 300 thick or 460 thick...

Thats a very thick wall! Are you sure?

Compliance with IP rating on consumer unit

All good then. If you are gonna get it tested by a 3rd party its way easier if you involve them beforehand.

Compliance with IP rating on consumer unit

If you've added a circuit to a consumer unit and you don't know a gland is called a gland, I'm assuming you won't be testing and notifying these notifiable works? Edit...is this the SWA from your earlier post that you've brought into the CU? If so, it needs glanding properly such that the...
