Solar panels BC/roof structural survey - online options?

I'm considering a similar non grid tie diy install. I'm currently thinking of dumping it all in to the hot water cylinder and the ensuite UFH circuits. I think I can get a two year payback using ex solar farm panels, depending on how future proof I go on the inverters. A decent return, as you...

Re: Planning Application - Does the name actually matter?

He wouldn't be falsifying anything would he? For example I could apply for a rear extension on mercury towers, and if granted , you or I could then build said extension?

Re: Planning Application - Does the name actually matter?

Anyone can apply for permission though, even if you don't own the property, so why don't you apply on your mate's behalf as an early crimbo present?

    Front fence and enforcement notice

Can you apply for a permitted development lawful development certificate for the remainder of the fence and then see how confused they get? How could they say no?

System/pump design when merging one-pipe and two-pipe systems

Interesting. I'll add a gate valve to the new two pipe loop too then and will have covered my bases as you say.

    Circular Saw blade

How are you supporting the wood? Is it sagging and pinching the blade as you get 75percent through the cut? That would lead to the burning that you describe.

    Tool Hire Damage (Genie Lifts)

Maybe the next fella hired it, broke it, then returned it to the hire shop and claimed "this is knackered I want my money back" so they try to pin it on you?

System/pump design when merging one-pipe and two-pipe systems

Thanks, I think I'll probably do that then. I was thinking that a new balance valve would be required on the old one-pipe side because that's effectively a 22mm open loop that will steal all of the flow, while the new two-pipe side will have a balance valve on each rad so quite easy to balance...

    Cutting purlins

Do the purlins resist a download load, or is the load at 45 degrees? In my old house the purlin struts were all at 45 degrees and met each other at the base in the middle of the loft floor.

System/pump design when merging one-pipe and two-pipe systems

Yes, the water is heated with a vented tank upstairs, and that is a separate loop off the same pump. This is a diagram of the current situation with the two motorized zone valves:

System/pump design when merging one-pipe and two-pipe systems

Hi, The old part of our house runs a one-pipe heating system, and works reasonably well serving 3 bedroom and 2 floors. It has a grunfoss circulator that seems happy on speed 1 of 3. The new extension has 5 radiators in it, and I've plumbed that as a standard two-pipe system. I'm just...

Can a shower pump be used to give pressure to the whole flat's hot water?

The previous owner of my house fitted a Salamander-twin so the whole house is pressurised on both hot and cold. It drives me nuts when I flush a loo and can hear it humming away upstairs, or I turn on a hot tap to rinse my hands and half a second after the water starts flowing, bang!, the...

Propping up a wall for a new lintel when its tricky!

But then wouldn't the block prevent the lintel being installed? The only way I could think of doing this would be to run a couple of scaff boards at ceiling level and then prop the joists as close to the end as possible. Then go upstairs and hack off the plaster and very carefully check that...

Is this required for selling house

I paid for 130 odd for one 8 years ago too, to appease my buyers solicitor. The whole thing is a bit of a joke including the legal industry's attitude that a building regs ticket is some kind of seal of quality approval. Anything but, given my experience of the inspection regime.

Is this required for selling house

Permitted development relates to planning permission - whether you are allowed to build or alter something. Building regulations relates to building something to code - i.e. complying with electrical safety, structural integrity, ventilation requirements etc. They're completely separate and...

    finding studs behind plasterboard

The magnet works well for me. It often takes a while to find the first one, but once that's located you can then guess that the next one will be 400mm away and then it's straight forward.

Grout or silicone below tile skirting?

In our new ensuite we're tiling the floor and also using matching tile skirting boards. Am I right in thinking that this is a movement joint due to the skirting tiles backing on to a stud wall, and therefore I should silicone the joint between skirting and floor, rather than grout? Thanks
