    IR Illuminator

As an alternative, consider investing in a better camera. With a more sensitive camera like the Hikvision Darkfighter you can get colour pictures with only a modest level of visible light. We have two of them at the front of the house that give good pictures just using scatter from street...

    Motion Detection on Hikvision NVR

Yes that's what I was referring to as well. I wouldn't want to be disturbed by an email or text every time a fox or cat wandered by.

    Motion Detection on Hikvision NVR

Personally I wouldn't want to use it for any sort of alarm. Perhaps indoors in what should be an empty room, but outdoors there is just too much potential for false alarms. In my examples above, the motion triggers were due to a fox.

    Texecom Premier message

The problem with mine is not the mains failure indication but with an immediate spurious PSU failure that needs an engineer reset to stop it. I understood (probably from here?) that this was a bug corrected in later versions of hardware or firmware, but since the panel is otherwise faultless I...

    Texecom Premier message

The mains frequency changes slightly as one of the means to maintain a stable grid supply, but it should always average out to exactly 50Hz over a longer period. Having said that the clock in mine does drift slightly. I use the clock adjustment menu but it's not sufficiently precise. With one...

    Motion Detection on Hikvision NVR

Incidentally, what do others think of iVMS 4200 version 3.x ? I find it slower to start and a big resource hog. Have gone back to the latest build of v.2

    CCTV optimum recording settings?

I would always go for the best frame rate that still allowed sufficient resolution for the area you need to be covered. It will always be a compromise, depending on the camera field of view and the distance an intruder might be.

    CCTV optimum recording settings?

"The human eye sees at approx 12fps so not much point recording at a higher fps" Yes if you are only watching it live. But if you want to check the recording later to identify someone, you need as many individual frames as possible.

    CCTV via LOFT

Is 'Doris Cameras' an authorised Hikvision seller? If so they will say so on their website.

    CCTV via LOFT

Ordering Hikvision via Amazon or eBay with a longer delivery time means it will be a grey import, unsupported in the UK and may not even be genuine. Google for an authorised UK distributor.

I would have said send it to recycling - but there won't be much copper in those cables. :(

    Cable type

You should not change or patch the Virgin cable, It is a specific type made for their network. If you use the wrong cable or wrong connectors it will affect your service and/or your neighbours who are on the same street cabinet. If the cable is changed in length it may need different settings...

Powering wireless CCTV camera from mains on a fused spur

"Would there be any heat issues with the transformer in the box mounted in the plasterboard." Yes. It's a fire risk.

    Cctv complaint

So according to this 10m rule, you can't have a pair of cameras mounted together looking in different directions. Crazy.

    Cctv complaint

No such thing as a 10m rule. Our cameras look across our neighbours' front gardens, and they are happy to have that protection. But then we don't **** them off.

    Power Supply for Intercom Doorbell

The 1000mA is the maximum current that it can supply. Your intercom only needs 300mA, so the power supply is being asked to provide much less than its maximum and will not be stressed.
