    Compressor & Impact Wrench questions

Could I just confirm something, to make sure I'm not complete misunderstanding? If trying to undo something that's simply too tight for the wrench, shouldn't the hammer still fire? Intuitively it seems to me that it should, otherwise it's not even trying. My experience so far has been that...

    Compressor & Impact Wrench questions

Cheers, there's an oil port on the wrench, I've just squirted a dose of oil into there now and again. The wrench is always a bit slimy with oil so I'm pretty sure it's getting enough. The annoying thing is that I found that Thorite, who I bought the compressor from, actually sell this exact...

    Compressor & Impact Wrench questions

OK I don't know where I got 8mm from, the air hose actually is 10mm bore, part number HA2140 from here .. www.thoritedirect.co.uk/products/tube_and_accessories/pcl/rubber_hose/pcl_air_tool_hose_coupling_and_adaptor_xf_series/

    Compressor & Impact Wrench questions

Hi, My compressor is a 2.0HP, 50L direct drive model. I also have a Hilka air impact wrench that I got shortly afterwards. Links to the exact models .. Compressor Hilka Impact Wrench First problem is that the impact wrench barely works at all. When I first got it I only had a very narrow bore...

Bernzomatic TS7000 repair or spare parts source

Hi, I have a Bernzomatic TS7000 torch that I've had for a great number of years, but has just recently stopped working. The issue is that the jet is partially or fully block, it's not quite clear which as the hole is so small. Unless anyone can suggest how I could try to unblock that without...

Old Imperial "7/.029" Twin and Earth

I've been concentrating on the power circuit, I think I need to check the lighting as well, I just assumed that was 1mm² when I was connecting that. By the way, what data were people looking at which suggested the CPC would be smaller than current practice?

Old Imperial "7/.029" Twin and Earth

Close enough, I made that 1.9mm, you make it 1.97 which I'm sure is correct. Either way it's greater than 1.5.

Old Imperial "7/.029" Twin and Earth

Not new, mostly it's in place but there are lengths that I've removed from their original places during the process of tracking down exactly how it was all wired, and reorganising into what I consider a safe design.

    Electrical tap boxes

As mentioned you need more detail to get the full picture. For what it's worth our connection is taken by Henley blocks splitting the tails before the consumer unit, then we have an isolator containing both a switch and a fuse between those tails and the armoured cable to the outbuildings...

Old Imperial "7/.029" Twin and Earth

Thanks for the comments. I'm pretty sure it's imperial, I measured the strands at 0.72mm diameter - I wouldn't swear to the 1/100 of a millimetre, but to make it 2.5 sq.mm would need a diameter of 0.67. All wired up, tested, connected and working now. Following up comments I checked out the...

Making a caravan mains hook up cable

To what extent would you go by the supplier's specification? For example here it specifies BS6500, but the temperature range specified by the supplier is greater. 3183ag-blue-240v-3-core-arctic-grade-cable

Old Imperial "7/.029" Twin and Earth

Thanks. I'll check that out, I've never worked on fused circuits so never needed to use those deratings. (This particular circuit will be a radial, hopefully on a 20A RCBO - hence my concern because if it rates below 20A I'll need to change my plans). Glad to hear the cable's not rubbish by...

Old Imperial "7/.029" Twin and Earth

Hi, One of our outbuildings is wired with old imperial sized twin and earth, examining it and measuring the cores show that it's the stuff described as "7/.029" with a cross sectional area just under 3 sq.mm for L and N. Looking at the information in the Wiki, the figures given in the 14th...

Source for 8mm Brown, Blue and Green/Yellow Sleeving

Thanks, the earth sleeving in 6mm did in fact stretch enough, thanks for that tip. Blue will be done with heat shrink, brown is already the correct colour.

Source for 8mm Brown, Blue and Green/Yellow Sleeving

If you think they're a possibility I'll drop them a line, see if they'll deal on a cash basis. I suppose what I really meant was they seem to want to deal only with existing account holders.

Source for 8mm Brown, Blue and Green/Yellow Sleeving

It's for identification, as PrenticeBoyofDerry guessed earlier on. The cable as supplied is Brown, Black, Grey. For consistency I'd rather all three were marked in the same way, although Brown is already correct.

Source for 8mm Brown, Blue and Green/Yellow Sleeving

Hi, I must be looking in the wrong places, but I can't find a source for Brown, Blue and Gn/Ye sleeving in a size suitable for 10mm insulated cable. The insulation is just over 6mm outside diameter, and it appears that sleeving is sized on O/D, so 6mm sleeving won't fit. I only need a couple...
