    Kitchen socket spur from upstairs

We’ve got upstairs sockets, downstairs sockets and another switch called ‘kitchen socket’ that I thought might be the one but the socket in question only goes off when the upstairs switch is flipped. So I guess another socket in the kitchen has its own switch. It’s a 1937 house but I had the...

    Kitchen socket spur from upstairs

Hi, I need to remove this single socket as I’m building a tiled splash back that would go across it. As you can see there are plenty of sockets available so I just want to remove it. The cable comes in from the top. The cables for the double come up from the bottom. By process of elimination...

New radiator needed - what do I do with these pipes?

Hi, Our hallway radiator burst on Christmas Eve - it’s the second time it’s had a leak so I reckon, as it’s from the 70’s, it’s time for a new one. I’ve fitted radiators before and done bits of plumbing so I reckon I can do it. The wife wants a smaller radiator but a double so we get the same...

    Is this a spur?

    Ok, thanks - I’ll assume it’s a spur and I can’t spur from a spur!

    Is this a spur?

Hi, First of all, I consider myself a competent person, I do most of my own household electrics, I’m a qualified sound engineer and no stranger to a soldering iron. Is this a spur? …the photos show our conservatory so what you’re seeing used to be an external wall. The dining room behind it...

    Mains socket on boxing in

Thanks for all the replies! More details… Two visible pipes to the right of the box, from upstairs it looks like they are the only pipes there (there’s certainly not two pipes going down from upstairs. The gas feed for the boiler goes straight in the back of the boiler. If you look at the...

    Mains socket on boxing in

Hi, I’m just wondering if there’s any reason why I shouldn’t put a double mains socket at the position indicated on the photo? The reason I ask is that it is boxing-in for pipework (water going upstairs and back again from the boiler that’s on the wall to the left). If not, the whole wall is...

    Garden Office/Studio - digging downwards

Hi, One of my projects for this year is a Garden Office and Recording Studio. With the 2.5m height restriction, I'm thinking about digging down say 1m to gain some extra headroom. The walls will be post and beam. Is this likely to throw up any problems? Also, possibly as a future addition. I'm...

Software/App for design and material quantities?

Thanks - I’ve been giving it a try. I think it’ll do the trick

Software/App for design and material quantities?

Hi, I'm starting a garden office project and wondering if anyone has an recommendations for design software? I'd like to be able to plot out the dimensions of my garden and create the proposed design, if possible, with the materials that I'll be using (post and beam) so I can work out quantities.

    High water in toilet pan

Got to the bottom of this. The existing siphonic aspirator had been cut off at the top in order to fit the Turbo 88. While trying to order a new aspirator I found every online outlet stated 'not compatible with the adjustable turbo 88' ...guess what I've got! Whoever repaired it last must have...

    Brass fittings on plastic pipe?

…I just read about contamination of the mains water supply. It’s a good job I had the question about the plastic pipe or I wouldn’t have known! So I guess it needs a separate feed from the central heating cold water tank? What about if I take a feed from the toilet cistern - it’s got a bottom...

    Brass fittings on plastic pipe?

This is the back of the bidet. I’ve fitted a new trap and I’m using two 15mm/1/2’ flexible connectors… These are the pipes. The 22mm is plastic and I was planing to tee it off with a 22mm x 22mm x 15mm brass tee. Is that ok if I'm using plastic inserts? @Madrab - this has taps and an...

    Brass fittings on plastic pipe?

Hi, Further adventures in the fitting of the 70’s avocado suite! I’m fitting the bidet. There’s not been one before so new hot and cold feeds plus waste. The waste isn’t a problem and I thought the water would be simple but when I lifted a floorboard to tee off of the hot and cold, the 22mm...

    High water in toilet pan

Yep - It sounds like I need a new one - it was fitted originally but it was doing the same thing with it included so I ditched it. Makes sense now!

    High water in toilet pan

Video here of the flush - https://share.icloud.com/photos/0a5lInK8aha70fr-n5HG3VPjg It did have an aspirator but I removed it as it wasn't doing anything (same result when it was fitted)

    High water in toilet pan

I just looked that up - it did have a siphonic aspirator. I didn't know what it was at the time and I didn't include it when I put it back together as it wasn't moving at all. Perhaps I need a new one?

    High water in toilet pan

Thanks @Madrab. Don't get me started on the avocado :LOL::LOL: This is the back of it with the level of the water indicated by square... As you can see the water level is sitting level with the top of the spigot and the connector slopes downwards very slightly - is there anything that...
